RE: Dennis Dodd on Regionalization Pitch
Nothing earth shattering but some interesting tid-bits:
"There are several athletic directors in the AAC and Sun Belt who favor regionalization. "
"As it stands, the AAC has leverage to fill in for three schools lost to the Big 12 -- Cincinnati, Houston and UCF -- while potentially adding a fourth team. The league has been at 11 programs after UConn dropped out to go independent in football. Aresco could take three or four schools from C-USA and te Sun Belt or go "big" and add as many as eight, according to industry sources. Both moves would further destabilize the other leagues in realignment."
"Let's just at least talk," MacLeod told CBS Sports of her conference's actions. "We're all so dang competitive."

RE: Dennis Dodd on Regionalization Pitch
"The letter states: "Rather than continuing to perpetuate the pattern of universities the pattern of universities moving from conference to conference in pursuit of modest media revenues, we see an opportunity to develop a more sensible and sustainable conference model."
C-USA schools aren't looking for modest media revenues. They are looking for exposure to grow their brands as App, Louisiana, Coastal, and nearly every other Sun Belt program has been able to do on some level.

A conference commissioner bemoaning competition.
You can’t make this sh*t up.

It is just ironic when CUSA had the opposite attitude during the last go around.

RE: Dennis Dodd on Regionalization Pitch
The problem with talking trash about CUSA wanting to be regional, as soon as a couple or three of our “premier” programs jump to another conference(AAC), we’ll be wanting the same regional realignment as well.
I’ve said a hundred times on here already, I get why the teams at the edge of the conference want more teams in their region. We all get it, and ultimately we all want it. As much as I like to see CUSA squirm, and as amateur as they seem to be, they are not wrong in the desire to readjust the conferences. We should mirror the P5 conferences.
MW is a baby PAC12
MAC is a baby B1G
AAC should be baby ACC
SBC is a baby SEC
Let the CUSA become the baby Big XII

The Sun Belt’s the only one that doesn’t have to do a thing to get there, because it’s already run by sane people.

Agreed, but we do have a team on our edge that desires to play in a baby ACC.

RE: Dennis Dodd on Regionalization Pitch
Let's say CUSA and the Sun Belt do a regionalization exchange for hypothetical. Please give me a map that keeps regional rivalries together and gives both conferences an equal number of schools. The only way to do it is split up the Alabama schools or send Ark State to the east. It makes no sense, as it only shaves 200 miles off Sun Belt travel anyways. CUSA is still screwed with UTEP. Quit joking about regionalization.

Here's a map with the AAC, CUSA, and Sun Belt included in making a two conference regional structure. The western conference looks great. The eastern conference makes me want to give up on everything I hold dear.
To make things smoother, I moved UTEP to independent because they're in the middle of nowhere, and I added JMU to the east, so they could both be at 16 teams.

ECU is almost certainly one.

ECU and Temple for sure. The problem has never been the East for any of the 3 leagues. Not everyone completely supports it, but many could come around to it with time. The problem is that any version of realignment involves treating every team as if they were a place on a map, and fails to assume that many schools market themselves outside of what you would claim their geographic region to be. They also develop rivalries with teams in other divisions, and don't want to lose those games.

Just my stupid little opinion, but those Florida schools are the biggest monkey wrench for any conference they’re in. Just so far away from everything.
The only way they aren’t a massive outlier is in a bizarro universe where Florida is its own conference with Miami, FAU, FIU, UF, UCF, USF, FSU, and some FCS call ups.
