Just as stupid as thinking the AAC would raid the Big 12

My guess is that this stirs the AAC even more to grab some of the bigger football brands in C-USA and the Sun Belt. I believe that UAB and Rice are locks. I would not be surprised if the AAC goes to 12 like the Big 12 and adds Marshall and Appalachian State as well.

UConn and UMass should approach CUSA as FB only schools.

I could live with that. UConn and UMass can play basketball with a few C-USA schools that take basketball seriously as part of the deal.

Wondering is if C-USA would take a football only JMU if there’s room. I know JMU would like to be in a conference with UMass and UConn as our out of state students come from the north east/mid Atlantic

Only if UConn and UMass relinquish 60% of their Big East and Atlantic 10 distributions to the rest of CUSA for every year they are a member.

Adding UConn's and UMass' completely worthless football teams does absolutely nothing to help Conference USA in any way. CUSA is better off dissolving rather than adding the two lousiest football programs in Division 1-A history to extend the league footprint 10 hours to the northeast from the nearest CUSA school while not meeting NCAA requirements to remain a conference should the league fall below 7 FULL members.

What a great way to LOWER the CUSA's strength of schedule.

I'd rather take JMU and Liberty for CUSA if UMass and UConn don't bring bball with them...which they wouldn't do.

Exactly. There is no point in adding those schools as football-only members. It creates a burden and nothing but a burden to everyone else that's left in the conference.

RE: Dennis Dodd on Regionalization Pitch
Assumptions: MAC and MWC remain as-is; future XII expansion is yet to be announced. That leaves us with the AAC (8), CUSA (14), and SBC (10) plus 5 independents. That’s a total of 37 schools. The AAC will want no part of this and expand to 12 with Marshall, Rice, Southern Miss, and UAB. Army remains independent. That brings the remaining group down to 24. The SBC reorganizes as a Southern and Southwestern conference while CUSA reorganizes as a Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern conference. For non-football schools, Wichita St remains in the AAC but the Summit picks up Arkansas - Little Rock and Texas - Arlington.

AAC
East: East Carolina, Marshall, South Florida, Southern Miss, Temple, UAB
West: Memphis, Navy*, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa
* Football-only
^ Non-football: Wichita St

CUSA
North: Charlotte, Connecticut*, Georgia St, Liberty*, Massachusetts*, Old Dominion
South: Appalachian St, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Georgia Southern, Troy
* Football-only

SBC
East: Arkansas St, Middle Tennessee St, South Alabama, UL Lafayette, UL Monroe, Western Kentucky
West: Louisiana Tech, New Mexico St, North Texas, Texas St, UTEP, UTSA

Liar.
UAB is 38-18 since 2017.

Id love if UTEP was that “crappy” at football.

Why on earth would the AAC want southern miss? They were good back in the day, but that day has passed. Small town, Small budget, Small upside potential.

Why on earth would the AAC want southern miss? They were good back in the day, but that day has passed. Small town, Small budget, Small upside potential.

The odd thing from this plan is that it expects MTSU, WKU, La-Tech, UTEP, and UTSA to leave C-USA (because its better in the SBC presumably) and (at the same time) Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Troy, Appy State and Coastal Carolina to leave the SBC for C-USA (presumably - because it's better in C-USA). I know you're trying to build two distinct regional conferences - but the SBC is already pretty regional - they're not the ones stretched up the east coast to West Virginia/Virginia and then to the far west end of Texas. For your SBC-east to C-USA group, they'd be trading a much closer set of SBC west schools for trips all the way up the east coast (much further than the current C-USA) to play a set of horrible football-only programs. I don't see what's in that particular set that is an improvement over where they are - geographically or competitively.

I haven't even thought about why the C-USA schools would jump to the SBC (maybe they would) - I just haven't thought about it yet.

I'm pretty sure UAB would plow the road with quite a few of those 1-AA teams you worship.

I think the budgets of 75% of these schools are small enough that TV money could probably buy the results they want.

If the Mouse wants to regionalize, there will be enough middle and low teams willing to do it that the four or five at the top of the AAC are stuck.
