RE: Breaking: Letter sent from CUSA TO AAC Released
I wonder how long before any information regarding the AAC's response is posted. If I'm being 100% honest I think reorganization makes sense. It's better financially and for the student athlete. It would need to include AAC/C-USA/SBC though. It seems though the Sun Belt said no to the proposal so it would be weird to see the AAC say yes.

The SBC is currently the most regional of the 3 conferences. However, the AAC and CUSA have crazy large conferences spread out over thousands of miles. Those are the two that need to split, one East, one west, with the SBC in the middle.

Hell, Judy might as well send one of these letters to the BigXII! Go for the "No" trifecta.

This is perfect the AAC is now reacting like the Big12 did to the AAC’s proposal.

Gold.

So while CUSA and AAC are talking about working together to possibly strengthen their positions, what is our leadership doing exactly? Presumably nothing?

I wouldn’t say done, but as many others have indicated, definitely desperate . . .

In many ways, it’s not a bad idea . . . G5’s pretending like they’re mini P5’s (from a financial standpoint) are going to be difficult to maintain (going forward). Some G5s are already feeling the strain . .

The problem with Judy’s proposal, is she’s asking the “other guy” to give up a ton for her conference’s benefit. It is in no way a marriage of equals . . . and those rarely work out.

CUSA has reached out to KG and he said he wasn't interested at this time. If the AAC for some strange reason is open to this concept you can bet Mike will reach out to the SBC for some good ole fashioned cherry picking of the conference he'll be the leader of.

I've been critical of KG in the past, but he's stepped up the last 3-6 months.

Takes two to dance and the AAC might not even pick up the phone.

This would involve the AAC swallowing their pride, and embracing some "undesirables". Doubt this ends well for most of CUSA...

The points made are valid, but I doubt the AAC wants to realign with CUSA when they could just add the teams they want.

RE: Breaking: Letter sent from CUSA TO AAC Released
The specific mention of creation of geographic rivalry games is exactly why the previous CBS Report indicating that App, UNT, UTSA, and UAB were in play for the AAC makes sense.

1. App State - ECU
2. UNT - SMU - UTSA - Tulsa
3. UAB - Tulane

However Judy has a point about TV revenue and creating geographic rivalries. The only problem is that it's Judy requesting this. Another issue is that her consultant has a history of trying to push the G5 into a separate entity from the P5 so that the P5 group can grow their revenue. This man isn't looking out for what's best for the G5, he's looking out for what's best for the P5's and in effect is acting as an ambassador for that group. He just chose the wrong pawn in Judy to try to push the message. Gill, Aresco, Thompson, and the MAC Commissioner are not going to go for this split while Judy effectively is throwing in the towel. She was the first to give up ESPN rights and I feel she knows that she can't get them back without destroying the Sun Belt and AAC first.

Reorganization of conferences makes no sense without seeing what the media deals are like. AAC has zero to gain at this point from such a move.

The points made are valid, but I doubt the AAC wants to realign with CUSA when they could just add the teams they want.

And therein lies the point. The AAC could take the top 3 candidates from both the Sun Belt and C-USA and have a really good football conference and a two-bid Mid-Major Basketball league. Why would Aresco ask his member schools to vote to dissolve in order to re-shuffle the deck when he holds all of the cards?

You take the following:

1. Louisiana
2. App State
3. Coastal
4. Marshall
5. UAB
6. I'm not sure who the third program in C-USA is, WKU maybe? FAU?

and you have a conference that can maintain the football branding with growth potential. Judy see's the programs turning Aresco down as weakness for the AAC and she expects that she can strike now, but her position is even worse. The position of her member institutions is even worse because of her office's decisions. Why would western AAC programs vote to align with western C-USA schools and likely be under the C-USA Offices?

I've been saying for a while that this is the smart move for the AAC. Become a vacuum and bring in instant success and weaken the other conferences at the same time.

After such a move, maybe CUSA and SBC would consider regionalization.

Yes, but only with Disney approval of course.
