Hopefully not writing a letter begging someone else to work with us.

Many things are happening. Relax, enjoy the day.

You sound at ease with something. What is it?

Is USM coming to the Sun Belt? Did Marshall officially tell the AAC no? Are App, Marshall, Arkansas State, and Louisiana going to the AAC?

You've got something.

No one is leaving the Sun Belt as of now. There would need to be considerable changes to what the AAC presently wants to make that happen

You know the concept of a Hail Mary? I wonder how long before it gets knocked to the ground?

So what do they want, exactly? Obviously markets with good football and basketball. You would think branding would matter as the streaming model takes hold.

I'm not convinced that the streaming model looks like what people are thinking it will in its final form either. If ESPN adds a streaming only option (which ESPN+ may allow, not sure) where you pay for the service and get all channels, you're not going to get streamers for specific programs as Judy seems to believe. There is going to be a mass of subscribers who have available a ton of content for programs in contract with ESPN, rather than paying to view specific programs content.

Eyeballs still matter to advertisers. So ESPN, Fox, CBS and others are going to pay more for content that draws viewers…streaming or not.

RE: Breaking: Letter sent from CUSA TO AAC Released
Alright, I'm not starting a new thread, so here's a best compilation of what I think is happening. Not all of this is sourced. I obviously don't have any sources within CUSA, but I don't think it takes a brain surgeon to figure out what Judy McLeod ever does. Lets post this in Q and A Form

Why does CUSA favor Regionalization?

Self Preservation children. Believe me, if CUSA thought they could wander over here and pick up whoever they wanted from the SBC, they probably wouldn't bother with this whole letter to the AAC. But they don't. They aren't getting App State, they aren't getting Coastal, etc. Take those backup options out of play, keep in mind that the SBC is talking with Southern Miss, and there's still talk that the AAC might go big and you get this. No one wants to be left in a league with FCS call ups, especially with a limited number of ready to move options available.

Would every CUSA President be fine with simply regionalizing with the AAC?

Duh, There's not a president in that league that wouldn't be just fine with the scenario Delaney proposed. The problem is that half the league knows there's little chance the AAC goes along

Why wasn't the Sun Belt given the same letter?

Despite the rumor that Gill flat out said no, I don't think Judy had any intention of sending us the same letter, at least not originally. Lets be honest here, the minute she has to send THAT letter is the minute she starts writing her resignation letter. She has to know there is no chance she survives if the league has fallen so far they'd have to even consider working with us.

When will the AAC respond?

This is a complicated question. They might never respond, or they might be nice and send a letter back saying no.

What does this mean for the SBC?

Very little. We won't be able to invite USM until it becomes officially clear that this aint happening obviously. The SBC's plans have not changed, and likely won't change unless the AAC changes its expansion approach. We've made our contacts, and had some initial visits. The only way anything moves faster is if Southern Miss decides not to wait anymore and moves without waiting on the AAC to respond.

What if the AAC goes after an SBC School?

I still consider this unlikely, though nothing is impossible. The AAC has certainly had some conversations with SBC Schools. They've almost certainly visited a couple. But that means little. Any visits to this point were unlikely to be official visits, but more of just looking at options. To expand into the SBC, the AAC is going to need to add several CUSA East teams as well, and I just don't see Aresco looking at going to that many teams. I think he's smart enough to know the TV money won't work.

the letter may freeze teams from leaving CUSA so I think the AAC will likely respond

There was no way to send the letter to Sun Belt and not risk losing support within the conference.

Louisiana Tech can’t support a map based realignment that includes Sun Belt. I suspect there are one or more CUSA in Texas that don’t want to be drawn into a map based realignment that hands them Texas State.

Yep. The minute she has to support that is the minute she's out of a job.

lets also understand she did not write that letter

anybody who has served on a committee understands this was written and re-written and with input from most every president that heard the Delaney proposal

. . . cause that makes it all better . . .

meanwhile, she (or they) are being shredded on the CUSA board over said letter.

Mission Accomplished?

Absolutely. CUSA-E teams would have been open to a geographical split with the SB years ago. Many were pushing it. UNT & LT still wouldn’t have signed off on a letter like this to the SB

Doing nothing may be exactly what needs to be done.

Doing something just to do something can be just as inept as not doing something when something needs to be done.

And I am sure there are plenty of staff in the SB office aware of that is going on well enough.

SBC wasn't included because Judy would lose her job. The reorganization with just AAC guarantees (maybe) that Judy gets one of the two new Conferences. If SBC was included Aresco would get one conference and Gill would get the other.

If the SBC was included it would be three conferences in, three conferences out. Still would need 3 commish.

Correct, But lets go beyond that because we know what the SBC's answer would be.

She's going to have to not only convince La Tech they need to work with the SBC, but two, that she is the perfect leader to help in that transition? Their President would laugh that off in a minute flat.

The only way Judy keeps her job is if the AAC either agrees to merge, or once realignment hits, the teams left in CUSA are the ones that support her. That's simply not happening. They can easily fire her and let DeLaney play interim commish for a bit. It wouldn't shock me if she resigned the minute USM becomes the first ever CUSA team to bolt for the SBC. I don't think she can recover from that.

USM is the only member of CUSA to fully participate in the entire history of the conference- UAB is original but didn’t play league football until 1999. We Golden Eagles detest what CUSA 3.0 has become, so to join the rising SBC, which CUSA plundered just a decade ago, would be a slap at CUSA and Judy that would be rejuvenating for us and enjoyable for you SBC guys.
