The Downfall of the Memphis Tigers Football Program
I have pinpointed the time that the universe turned against our football program. It is the precise moment that this douche posted this video, along with his commentary. All of my frustration has now been focused toward him, and I suggest that each of you do the same.

I would say seriously, it was probably the totally uncontested touchdown drive by UTSA that ended as our defensive back stood in the endzone about 6 feet away from the UTSA receiver and just watched him catch a 40yd TD pass.

For this "woulda-coulda-shoulda" thread....

One of the critical plays (other than the 2 fumbles) in the USTA game was the bad snap by USTA, deep in their territory. Somehow, their QB is able to pick up the ball as it's rolling towards the end zone and throw it away.

If we were being aggressive on defense, we either recover the ball and take over inside the 5 yd line, or we tackle the qb inside the 5 yd line, and it's 3rd down and a train ride. Instead, it's 3rd down and 5 or so. They convert, and continue to drive & score.

If I recall, we didn't have anyone rushing on that particular down. That gave the QB time to gather the ball & throw it away. That's where the scales tipped, I believe.

The season isn’t going as planned, but I think (no, I’m sure of it) it’s a wee bit too soon to pronounce the program dead.

Great memory-great point.

RE: The Downfall of the Memphis Tigers Football Program
This is it...

We have a 21-7 lead against UTSA to start the 2nd half.
They get the ball and we force a punt on defense.
We come out on offense and first play hit Dykes for 53 yards to the UTSA 38.
We have a punter kicking FG's, so the 38 is not good enough.
Then we run Thomas for 3 straight plays.
On 4th down, we send our punter out for a 52 yd FG that he misses badly.
UTSA scores TDs their next 2 possessions.

The moment Silverfield decided to run Thomas for 3 straight downs, knowing we needed more yards (and points, with our D), is the moment the season turned.

We never have anyone rushing. Not effectively.

You mean Brandon Thomas who had broken a 75 yd and a 70 yd TD against Ark State 2 weeks prior, had 83 for a 5.2 avg against Miss State a week before, and totaled 421 for 8.4 avg for the season entering the game?

That "Thomas"?

All of the above are great points---but I also think Florida St had something to do with it----and letting the team choose the coach----instead of the same process that brought us Fuente - Norvell

Silverfield was at his worst during the UTSA game, but it really was just a continuation of the 4th quarter in Jonesboro. He decided to take the air out in the 4th quarter in that ball game and just about suffocated us. Unfortunately, he did the same against UTSA and finished us off; and we haven’t been able to regain momentum since. Confidence & momentum are funny… you never voluntarily relinquish either.

Yes, as he's the only Thomas RB I am familiar with on the roster.
Thomas was not the issue. I've stated many times, I think the kid has high potential.
The 3 straight runs only to attempt a 52-yd fg with a Punter - that is the issue.
UTSA was no Arky State. And it should have been painfully clear when we went into the half with about 50 yards rushing.
