Conference USA executives plan to send a letter Tuesday to their brethren at the American Athletic Conference asking them to consider a regionalization model to reorganize the two leagues, sources tell Sports Illustrated.

The proposal, originating from C-USA commissioner Judy MacLeod, would require the conferences to remake themselves based on geography, creating two new leagues under different names. C-USA presidents met Monday to approve the decision to reach out to the AAC, seen as the next step in what’s been a weekslong process of drafting reorganization models.

When reached Tuesday, MacLeod declined comment on the conference’s request to the AAC. But she acknowledged her league’s intentions to regionalize with another Group of 5 conference in light of the latest realignment wave that has engulfed college sports.

The AAC would like to merge with the SEC too....but yea....no.

I think its shocking they dont reach out to the Sunbelt. Could they really be so delusional that they think the AAC would be more willing to go for this than the Sunbelt?

The Sun Belt is somewhat regionalized now. Our commissioner in no uncertain terms has said we do not support any merger with CUSA.

As long as we get $10 million per school per year, I'm okay with it.

the aac never acknowledged they tried and denied the rumors

the aac released a statement publicly that they had no interest.....to shamelessly still put out a public letter AFTER the aac said it had no interest, reeks of desperateness .. they already know our response!!! why would you shameless do anything public from that point on

I can't believe they actually sent an "offer". The issue nobody from CUSA is worth having now, AAC could grow some into respectable programs.

Whatever ESPN wants the AAC will do so sending an offer is silly. AAC and CUSA aren't on the same level, never have been, and never will be.

She could have just written "Please dont raid my conference and get me fired". It would have saved time and been more honest.

She couldnt even get the Sunbelt to agree to this.

I mean it's like it in terms of the chances of it working are essentially zero. The difference is there are going to be a number of national figures and talking heads who are not going to mock this for the idiotic proposal that it is, because there for some is this wet dream for the AAC to not just be hurt but to go away completely.

Why on earth would the American consider this?

The ONLY reason is if ESPN has told the American that the next deal will be pennies on the dollar compared to the current deal and the way to make up for it is to reduce travel cost.
