It's because C-USA is significantly more worried about losing members to the AAC compared to the Sun Belt, so this is C-USA's last gasp attempt to ward it off. Obviously, the AAC isn't considering this proposal at all.

They did run it by our commissioner and were bluntly told “no.”

I am sorry, but this CUSA proposal is like George Custard say he will accept the unconditional surrender at the Little Big Horn.

They need to be worried about losing members to both leagues. Losing them to the AAC isn't actually a real issue, it's happened a bunch of times before, but losing teams to a league you previously raided would be far far far worse.

CUSA is bloated at 14. They should want to lose 2-4 members.

Problem is the one they need to lose is UTEP and that's the one least likely to go anywhere. If they were to happen to lose all other Texas schools aside from UTEP to the AAC/MWC they'd have a nightmare geography problem.

I suppose some teams could be left out in any conference dissolution/ reformation.

Take 4 and call it a "Reorganization" between the two leagues.

This is spot-on.

You don’t send a letter like this out unless knowledge of something is about to happen. UAB was in the mix weeks ago and we didn’t see a letter like this until now. This is a last ditched effort move to try to stave off what’s coming.

Couple of things to take from this. Several CUSA schools are involved (likely more than two), and it’s about happen very soon, because it’s a desperate move.

Just my opinion.

Marinatto did the same kind of outreach with the ACC before the Big East got plundered. It's a 'please don't f**k me in the a$$' kind of plea that usually has the opposite effect.
