In fact, the AAC is targeting several schools to fill voids left by Houston, Cincinnati and UCF, which announced in September that they plan to join the Big 12 as soon as 2024. One of the conference’s top targets is C-USA member UAB, multiple sources tell SI. The Blazers and the league are holding ongoing discussions.

UAB would complete a feel-good tale if the deal comes to fruition. The program disbanded its football program in 2014 before restarting it in 2017. It has flourished under coach Bill Clark, claiming three straight division titles and the Conference USA championship with an 11-win campaign in 2018. Just this year, the school opened a 47,000-seat, $175 million stadium in downtown Birmingham.

What is there to really discuss?

AAC: Hey UAB, want to join the AAC sometime before 2024?
UAB: Yes
AAC: Ok here's the invite

There's no way to know this, but did Watts vote in support of this? If he did, does it really mean anything?

I think the proposed reorganization would be great and it makes sense. The problem is it has no chance of happening and Judy has to know this. This is a "hey, look at me! I'm doing something!" move out of desperation. Good chance CUSA is about to be gutted.

This is what I was thinking. It's pretty straight forward.

Like Aresco’s western courtship, this is just a shot you have to shoot. But at this point, it has chance and will be ridiculed

How much will it cost UAB to exit CUSA and enter the AAC?

Probably a mil or 2 or 3. But if 3 or more teams are targets for AAC the entry fee should be nil to null. Why pay millions to play some of the same folks?

I'm sure the vote was probably unanimous, but even if it is, and even if Ray Ray is on the up and up and actually has UAB's interests ahead of Fess', AND even if it's an open secret that UAB is in negotiations/discussions with the AAC until the trigger has been pulled he/UAB is still going to vote with and act with the rest of C*USA like the AAC move isn't on the table

Well CUSA did do us solid by not kicking us to curb when the foolish decision was made in '14.

The only value a deal like this could have for us and a couple of others is that a merger would mean we wouldn't have just changed conferences if we could sell the Big XII on. UAB and Memphis is a future round.

IMHO that's not enough for anyone to take it seriously. Judy screwed this conference up and she's about to be laughed out of town

...if anyone out there somehow has a Big XII flag, it would make for a cool meme to have a pic of it planted in the ground (on stadium property) right across from SEC HQ... ...just sayin'... 02-13-banana02-13-banana02-13-banana

It's a 2.5 million dollar entry fee for the AAC. Anyone knows the CUSA exit fees?

3 value meals from McDonald's and a new motorized jeep

I've seen many numbers thrown around, but somewhere in the neighborhood of $4-$5 million seems to be the most accurate.

If $4-$5 Million is accurate, and the only numbers I've seen, that is ridiculous for a conference that only pays $500K for media rights.

I have seen the exit fee as being equal to two years of conference payouts (approximately $6 million) with a required 14-month notice.

It serves as a deterrent for programs looking to leave the conference. Most of the time it doesn't work.
