That was my thought? This would end I believe most teams chances at a Big XII invite. Wouldn't it just be easier for Aresco to take the 2 most desired in the C-USA and wait and see if any MWC teams (CSU and AFA) were to come later?

I'm sure you guys realize that the 2 unnamed schools is the east could be JMU and Liberty.

Temple's new AD was just saying in the last 48 hours how they need more local travel.

It has the same shot the AAC had to raid the B12.

Since you are so smart, what is your great idea?

Add UAB, pick 1 other team that makes you puke the least, wait around to see if the B12 actually does anything else once OU/UT leave and then react from there. Cash the exit fee checks from the 3 departing members and keep moving.

What is the purpose? Possibly, it’s that the CUSA members who want to split up the conference are publicly getting a conference-wide endorsement of the idea of splitting up CUSA.

Consider this. Here is the proposal as reported by the si article:

Quote:The western conference would include SMU, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Wichita State, UAB, Memphis and UTSA. The eastern conference would feature East Carolina, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Temple, Marshall, FAU, FIU, South Florida, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky and two potential new additions.

And here’s what it looks like if you replace the AAC remainers, who were never going to say yes anyway, with blanks to be filled in later. This is the real proposal:

Quote:The western conference would include _____, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, Southern Miss, _____, _____, Louisiana Tech, _____, UAB, _____ and UTSA. The eastern conference would feature _____, Charlotte, Old Dominion, _____, Marshall, FAU, FIU, _____, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky and two potential new additions, _____ and _____.

I'm sorry it hurts ECU's pride, but the AAC doesn't look very good for the 2023 season.
This is a good opportunity for an east coast school such as ECU to be close to the middle of a new conference.

I wouldn't say the AAC got rejected.

Officially, no. Conferences only extend invitations they know will be accepted.

Temple isn't going back to the MAC. They institutionally fit with the big metros in the AAC. There is no interest to play in Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, etc, for pennies of what they get in the American.

The value of the right to televise AAC games is falling, and it is unclear if there is a way to change that fact. At some point, it might make sense on paper for Temple to put its football back in the MAC and other sports back in the Atlantic 10 (or something).

(Not that I would expect Temple to actually do that or for the MAC to necessarily go along with that. Louisiana Tech was in the WAC for 12 years because it insisted it was better than Sun Belt schools like Louisiana and Louisiana-Monroe.)

Would Temple have greater interest in playing MTSU, WKU, ODU, FA/IU for pennies of what they get in the American? At least the travel cost would be less. What Temple and I am sure the rest of the AAC teams what is to select the best 2 to 4 Sun Belt, CUSA and/or Buffalo with the promise of more TV money than get now, Saturday games in October and November on a platform that you can on Basic Cable. While their status as the top G5 conference is in doubt, they are at worst the second best G5 conference and the logically next step for a CUSA or Sun Belt team.

I would think Temple would want: UMass, UConn, ECU, Marshall, USF, Army, Navy and maybe Buffalo for starters. Maybe look at the F@U twins too.

I doubt UConn would leave the BE for BB but maybe offer them a FB only. Navy and Army might take that offer too.

Other possibilities are App State, Coastal Carolina, UAB, Old Dominion, Charlotte

This would essentially be ACC Lite.

Umm and you think those lineups on either side would look good for the 2023 season? Also forget ECU's pride, the school your name claims you support SMU is the least likely school possible to agree to this.

As a Middle Tennessee State fan, I would be pleased with the reorganization.

As a Memphis fan, I would be — anything but.

I agree. There are options for Temple (and ECU) to surround themselves with programs to form a North(east) Atlantic division. The question then becomes, what would the opposing division be. Teams from Texas? Florida? Or something closer to home (Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama).

They could also just take their ball and go home. Plant football in independence, FCS, or whatever FBS league will take it and put Olympic sports in the A-10.

For discussion. Lets say UAB and Buffalo (not CUSA or Sun Belt) go to the AAC to make it a 10 school league.

The West could be:

1. Ark St
2. Louisiana,
3. ULM
4. TX ST
5. Troy
6. South Alabama

7. USM
8. LA Tech
9. UTSA
10. Rice
11. UTEP
12. NT

The East
1. App
2. Coastal
3. GA State
4. GA Southern

5. Charlotte
6. ODU
7. Marshall
8. FIU
9. FAU
10. Middle TN
11. WKU
12. ? Maybe JMU or Liberty, etc

I feel like Memphis is a shoe in for the Big XII once UT/OU are really gone.

I don't see any major waves in G5 reorganization until then.

It would be nice to see some sort of agreement take place though. I don't think anyone wants another round of callups to FBS eating into the already meager crumbs of a pie that is left for the G5. The AAC should take 2 from C-USA and then everyone should just hold until the next wave.

RE: SI.COM: CUSA to Request AAC to Reorganization into two conferences
The end result may end up being simpler than a lot of other ideas out there.

1) AAC invites UAB and Rice. Ends up at 10.
2) SB invites USM and JMU. End up at 12.
3) C-USA invites NMSU. Ends up at 12.

The wild cards are whether the Big 12 and/or MW get involved.

I wouldn't say the AAC got rejected.

Air Force and Colorado State admitted they contacted the AAC. Then they made a joint public statement they were staying in the MWC.

The AAC was just listening the entire time while all that was going on around them. Those teams wanted to move but they buckled to outside forces.

It was the reporters that were putting the story on it.

Saying the schools made the first contact is SOP to avoid law suits for tampering. No matter how you try to paint it, Aresco was the aggressor and yes the AAC got rejected.

RE: SI.COM: CUSA to Request AAC to Reorganization into two conferences
This CUSA proposal is just a momentary distraction as far as the AAC is concerned.

They're not going to let the CUSA derail them off the track that they're on.

The AAC train is heading toward adding 2, 4, 6, or possibly even 8 more schools according to McMurphy and Dodd's recent stories.

They're not likely to choose their new members based on some recommendations from another conference. They're more likely to choose them based on which schools meet their own priorities and critera most closely and completely.

They're in the driver's seat because they have by far the largest corporate sponsor underwriting them. "Money talks (and b.s. walks)"

West: UTSA, UNT, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, LaTech, Tulane, USM, UAB
East: UMass, Temple, Navy, Marshall, JMU, ODU, ECU Charlotte, FAU, USF

Leaves out WKU, MT, UTEP, FIU from CUSA who can try for the SBC or WAC.

Now that's a great observation. 7 schools on each side who have played basketball with each other for 8 (?) years. I think CUSA 3.0 started in 2014 (?) so the timing is almost right on the money for this to happen next year.

Add NMSU to the West and you've got 8 plus a travel partner for UTEP.
Add UMass, UConn and Liberty to the East and you've got 10.
