As I mentioned previously, Parish and Urban South are really the only two standouts. Your list omitted NOLA and Great Raft which I would give both a B letter grade. The quantity of breweries is low on a per capita basis when compared to many other states and the quality is lacking as well. I travel very often and visit breweries during my travels, for example in the last month I’ve been to 14 different breweries outside of Louisiana so I have a pretty good grasp on this topic. Also speaking in terms of truly local breweries, Lafayette proper has nothing. That’s absurd for a city of its size. Our saving grace is we essentially have the best brewery in the state down the road in Broussard.

Yes it is, it's labeled as JFG mayo outside the Deep South. It's a good 2nd place to the King (Duke's).

I would say it is a Top-5 seasoning in LA. They make a White Pepper blend for those folks, like me, who have a little trouble with the Black Pepper.

Parish is one of my go-to's available here in South MS. The DDH version of Ghost in the Machine they do once in a while is outstanding. I'm a big fan of Dr. Juice as well. Hopefully we get into the SBC so I have a really good reason to go to Broussard to visit Parish.

Please don't get me start about Mt Olive. I love their pickles, they are my favorite. But the University that shares the town name missed out by calling themselves the Trojans, and not the "Fighting Pickles".

Broussard is Broussard, Lafayette is Lafayette. I live in Mid-City, on the best day I can get to Parish in 20 minutes, that isn’t in Lafayette. Cajun Brewing was 2 minutes from my house. Their beers were very average and they went too big too fast and found themselves with a buttload of beers on shelves that weren’t selling. My good friend who works at Parish foresaw their demise about 6 months before it was announced because he heard the rumors through their contacts at Schilling about how poorly Cajun brewing was selling. Still, that was the only brewery in the city of Lafayette, and I stand by my comment that it is absolutely absurd that a city of our size has no brewery within the city. I know of some of the reasons why things are that way, and it is largely due to city government making things cost prohibitive to that type of business operating within the city.

Someone should open up Vermilion Brewing as a nanobrewery. Offer Vermilion Bière Blonde, Evangeline Bière Blanche as flagship drinks and offer a cool place to be. Ask Karlos Knott for some collaboration/guidance (dude knows how to run a brewery and make it an attraction), and serve Bayou Teche beer there alongside the two flagship offerings. If the business grows, expand offerings.

I enjoyed the beers from Cajun very much. Its a shame they did not sell better. I agree that we 'should' have more breweries but lots of people around here stick with NAtty light, etc over what my BIL calls 'city beer'.

Well nearly every corner of the city is accessible to someone like me within a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bike ride, so going into Broussard is just not the same; that's the reason I take exception to someone saying it is basically all the same.

My beef is places like Teche or Parish could do three times the taproom business they currently do if they were located within a polygon that could be drawn from 90, down Kaliste Saloom, to Camellia/Guilbeau, and then straight north from the Guilbeau/Congress intersection back to 90. Cajun was in that footprint, but were located in a spot that no one would ever associated with visiting to have a drink. They made some decent beers, but also didn't make a decent IPA, which is basically a must for any modern brewery to survive.

I find IPAs wildly overrated. I still haven't found a single one that I actually enjoy and that includes Ghost in the Machine. I need a few beers in me before I find it tasty.
