Cajun Brewing operated off of Bertrand for a while and made really good beers. They could not get their distribution right, I guess, and they faded out.

Broussard is Broussard, Lafayette is Lafayette. I live in Mid-City, on the best day I can get to Parish in 20 minutes, that isn’t in Lafayette. Cajun Brewing was 2 minutes from my house. Their beers were very average and they went too big too fast and found themselves with a buttload of beers on shelves that weren’t selling. My good friend who works at Parish foresaw their demise about 6 months before it was announced because he heard the rumors through their contacts at Schilling about how poorly Cajun brewing was selling. Still, that was the only brewery in the city of Lafayette, and I stand by my comment that it is absolutely absurd that a city of our size has no brewery within the city. I know of some of the reasons why things are that way, and it is largely due to city government making things cost prohibitive to that type of business operating within the city.

Lighten up, Francis. If drive time is the measuring stick half of Lafayette is not Lafayette either!
I enjoyed the beers from Cajun very much. Its a shame they did not sell better. I agree that we 'should' have more breweries but lots of people around here stick with NAtty light, etc over what my BIL calls 'city beer'.

My beef is places like Teche or Parish could do three times the taproom business they currently do if they were located within a polygon that could be drawn from 90, down Kaliste Saloom, to Camellia/Guilbeau, and then straight north from the Guilbeau/Congress intersection back to 90. Cajun was in that footprint, but were located in a spot that no one would ever associated with visiting to have a drink. They made some decent beers, but also didn't make a decent IPA, which is basically a must for any modern brewery to survive.

I find IPAs wildly overrated. I still haven't found a single one that I actually enjoy and that includes Ghost in the Machine. I need a few beers in me before I find it tasty.

I definitely get that. I have friends and family that are the same way. I think many saw the IPA thing as a trend, but it's a trend that has been going on for nearly 10 years now. But just to highlight my previous point about being able to make a decent IPA to survive, especially back when Cajun Brewing was around, Parish released an IPA recently that was selling for $20/4-pack, yes that's right, $120/case. Their limited releases like DDH Ghost frequently go for somewhere between $15-$20/4-pack, and they almost always sell out during online presale. It's a very important part of the market, and I never found one of Cajun's IPA offerings as coming close to be able to compete with even Teche's slightly above average stuff, much less Parish.

You aren’t lying about AA. That’s one I have to constantly remind myself about how strong it is and limit myself to only 2!
