RE: Free Stadium Blankets this Saturday
I have been a season ticket holder and donor for MANY years, and I never knew about the stadium blanket giveaway. No e-mail....no nothing. Why is it so hard for these people in Athletics to send out e-mails? Not everyone is on social media. And, considering that the fans base is comprised of many oldsters, I doubt most of those fans are on social media.

Northwestern Medicine has been a great sponsor. They paid for the football and basketball Victor E. Huskie bobbleheads a couple years ago. We need more sponsors like this.

Maybe they could sponsor hot dogs @ HS?

Same here. I get zero emails from Athletics regarding game times, promotions, etc.
Seems like a low cost way to drum up some business. Send it to all the alumni that you have emails for, seems like Marketing 101 stuff.

It means a little work on their part. Instead, they prefer to post it once on social media and then their work is done. Many, if not most, of the older fans are not on social media. And we have a ton of older fans. I am not on any social media, and I refuse to be. For my future donations, I will just tell them to look on social media.

Or ... wild thought ... because they are aiming at younger fans who do use social media and might be attracted by free stuff.

That's all well & good. However, you don't alienate those who actually have a couple of nickels to rub together who've been supporting the program for decades in the process.

If they didn't give away blankets would you be upset? They don't owe you anything. You have bought cheap entertainment for years and they gave it to you. End of transaction.

FFS.

I remember getting a free-huge foam cowboy hat at the stadium the year we joined the Big West. Good times.

I didn't say it was a good or bad thing, just what they might be doing IF they had a reason at all.

Some posters complain NIU doesn't do enough to attract students/other younger fans, but when they try something, are the first to scream "Where's mine?!" And the "find-something-wrong-with-everything" crowd is always ready to jump.

Or ... maybe they just got a donation for 1,000 blankets and simply offered it on social media where a ton of stuff gets posted all the time.

FFS.

numbers you're missing the point. Technically they "don't owe" anyone anything, but what makes sense as good business? If there isn't a value to recognizing those who have been supporting the Huskies for decades, then why are there so many loyalty programs out there? Seriously, you've never signed up for a rewards program with I don't know, Starbucks, a grocery chain, some gas/oil company, an airline, a credit card, etc. All the way back to the days of Gerald O'Dell, I paid a premium price for four season tickets in the chairback seat section and was told such support would always be appreciated. Guarantee there isn't a person in the current administration, Huskie Club / HASF / or whatever the hell it is now called who a) knows, b) cares, or c) can even find a record of that commitment and all the ones that followed. Heck all the years of renewing those season tickets didn't matter when they instituted a charge for premium parking which used to not cost a cent. Donations to a new NIU women's basketball lockerroom in Evans Field House, participation or contributions to the Brigham/Novak, on and on and on were choices willingly and happily made. But it would never hurt the athletic administration in place to recognize there were supporters long before they arrived and hopefully will remain long after they've moved on. FFS as you say.

RE: Free Stadium Blankets this Saturday
Look what I done.. Oh well.

Good points uiniu57. I was also a WBB locker room donor, along with other things. Btw, one year the HClub gave tam-style caps and another year high-quality red club sweaters to us who backed the Huskies financially. (Still have mine, which gave me the pic for my avatar).

IMO they got 1,000 blankets and the first 1,000 get them. The rub was they promo'd it on social media only. It's almost like they "got us" so they don't need to pay us any mind. But they don't realize that after us, who else they "got?"

I still think, tho, that we're building a mountain out of a molehill of blankets.

Yeah. Can hardly breathe in there. Remember the bobbleheads? They came, they grabbed, they left. Need something that sticks. Like hot dogs.03-lmfao

RE: Free Stadium Blankets this Saturday
They can keep posting all they want on social media. But.....they need to show some respect for older fans by sending out this same information via e-mail. I have talked to several older fans at the basketball games, and they are pissed at the lack of information sent via e-mail vs. what Athletics puts on social media. Also, when there is a change in the scheduled game time, this information needs to be highlighted and communicated via e-mail. I keep bringing up that WBB game a couple years ago where the time was changed and many fans did not know about it. Let's just say they were livid! It's all a matter of communication and respect for those who support the Huskies. It certainly used to be there, but not with this administration.

I loved them, too. Bring them back for the entire stadium! Apparently, the administration did not want it to be too loud in the stadium. Might upset the opposing team, you know!

+1000000

One of the many things the administration has done to destroy the gameday environment. The cannon. Red-black chant. East-side lot tailgating rules. Etc.

The blanket thing is much better than NIU selling long-sleeved shirts at our Wyoming game in 85 degree weather, so I'll give them credit for that. I already have a tailgating blanket I bought at one of the auctions, but I'll take another one.
