The Athletic: MAC football rankings (after 6 weeks)
https://theathletic.com/2881106/2021/10/...gan-state/

Quote:#51 WMU (previous ranking: 29)
#75 NIU (previous ranking: 74)
#80 EMU (previous ranking: 88)
#86 Toledo (previous ranking: 78)
#87 BSU (previous ranking: 98)
#88 KSU (previous ranking: 101)
#89 Buffalo (previous ranking: 86)
#108 Miami (previous ranking: 107)
#110 CMU (previous ranking: 109)
#118 Ohio (previous ranking: 124)
#119 Akron (previous ranking: 125)
#125 BGSU (previous ranking: 106)

Quote:Western Michigan drops out of the top 50 after a 45-20 loss to Ball State. I thought the Broncos could be a breakout team from the MAC, but that doesn’t appear to be the case...A team to watch in the MAC could be Northern Illinois, which is now 2-0 in conference play after close wins against Eastern Michigan and Toledo.

Some of these rankings make no sense and have nothing to do with body of work and more to do with the name of the school or what they did last season.

Iowa State #46 with wins are over FCS team by 6 points, winless UNLV, and 1-4 Kansas.

Memphis is overrated at #65 with wins are over FCS team, 1-5 Arkansas State, and Mississippi St but losses to bad teams like Tulsa and Temple.

UAB #61 with wins over FCS, 1-4 North Texas, 1-5 Tulane, and 3-3 FAU. Really?

These rankings make me think the writer spends little time on the bottom half. NIU beats Toledo on the road and moves down one spot. EMU beats Miami at home and moves up eight spots.

Exactly. That's why while I have an interest in these things they really aren't significant to me.

This is obviously a mistake. We beat Toledo. Toledo is the perennial favorite by the rating services to be MAC champion. In addition, Toledo has had nationally ranked recruiting classes since I entered puberty. Maybe we are being punished for beating their favorite team.
