RE: Congratulations, UConn
On the plus side, there are already 10 schools that are bowl eligible. At the same stage in 2019 (the last non-COVID year) there were only three (Ohio State, Florida and SMU).

Eligible at 6-0 are:

Wake Forest
Oklahoma
Michigan
Michigan State
Iowa
Kentucky
Georgia
SMU
UT San Antonio
Coastal Carolina

SMU is the only school on both lists. In 2019 they finished 10-3 after losing their bowl game to Florida Atlantic.

You're a week late. Technically, they were eliminated when they lost to Vanderbilt because their schedule includes two FCS teams, and only one could've been counted toward bowl eligibility meaning they could only afford to lose 5 games to be bowl eligible.

Even though it may be late, your statement is still just as true today as it was this time last week.

Yeah, but this way they got to be the only one still in the category of not eligible. UMass also has two FCS teams this year and that same max of 5 losses, by beating UCONN we delayed the inevitable by a bit...until next week when we likely get destroyed by FSU, but still.

UConn and UMass should play annually for the "Somebody Has To Win Border War Trophy". 04-jawdrop 01-lauramac2 02-13-banana 03-nutkick 03-drunk 03-banghead 03-weeping 03-zzz 03-hissyfit 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 04-chairshot 04-rock 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 05-mafia 04-bow 05-ban COGS COGS 04-cheers

They were eliminated this week, not last week. Before this week they had 5 FBS and only 1 FCS remaining on the schedule; enough to be bowl eligible.

You get to pick which FCS school you count ... if they beat Yale next week, they would count Yale and not count Holy Cross, which they lost to. Finish at 6-5, and you are bowl eligible.

Of course, the need to run the table, including Clemson, might have them counted as "all but eliminated", but technically it was UMass that knocked them out of eligibility.

False because Yale, like all Ivy League schools, does not offer the required amount of football scholarships to be counted as an FCS win for bowl eligibility which is 90% scholarships allotted over a 2-year period.

I’m sure if UConn went 6-6 and beat Yale, and there was an open bowl spot, they would get in.

Yes, but that's not the standard. That would require a waiver.

And they would get it with no issues

It’s going to be a long, long time (if ever) before UConn competes in an FBS-bowl game, with or without a waiver.

Got me there. Man, UConn scraping the bottom of the barrel for opponents. Ivy League though, so, intriguing...

Scheduling as an independent has actually been less trouble than people made it out to be. The first two-three years of schedules had to be produced all at once at the last minute though, so they tossed an extra in-state FCS in there.

It doesn't really matter because they aren't going to a bowl game anyways.

UConn is down in the ranks where the elimination from the bowl game not coming until November would be progress.

Of course, evidently they have not yet made that progress.
