I can't wait to see how this plays out. I also hear that Amtrack might do the same thing.

Massive ‘call in sick’ leaves SouthWest teetering as Union is against mandatory vaxx
I flew to Philadelphia to visit my son and his wife. (My daughter n law is a 1st year at Penn Law.) I flew American on Friday September 24th.
Actually arrived early to PHL. I had planned to fly back to Louisville the following Sunday afternoon through Orlando via Southwest. Southwest canceled my connecting flight and apparently wasn’t going to tell me until I asked the gate agent in Philly about a really tight connection in Orlando. Southwest was going to strand us at MCO.
My wife had to be back in Louisville for a meeting on Monday morning so we did the next best thing. We rented a one way and drove the 700 miles home to Louisville.
With that being said, before I retired I flew 20 days a month, domestically and internationally. I had few issues.
My last two flights, both this year, have been a cluster. Both delayed, causing missed connections along with lost luggage. If you’re flying anytime soon, be prepared for a sh*tshow.
I’ve never liked Southwest but American’s performance has really disappointed me. I’ve flown over 500K miles with American and wouldn’t fly anywhere with them now if a connection is involved.

RE: Massive ‘call in sick’ leaves SouthWest teetering as Union is against mandatory vaxx
BTW notice Southworst lied about why the flights were canceled. That way they can keep from paying for lodging for travelers they strand. If we had a Transportation Secretary with any guts he would have the airlines in his office on Monday. As it is the Transportation Secretary won’t because of the idiotic vax mandate his administration is pushing.
This cluster needs to be laid at the feet of the Covid scare tactics the present administration is neck deep in.

Many companies want it too. They want the WH threat as cover to force their hand and so as to say they had to do it

if the rest of any major workforce had those balls, this fades faster than a cocaine hard-on gone limp when they recognize it’s a ‘shadonkey’…

Nobody can seem to confirm anything, but what I understand is there was no particular staffing issue with SWA, there are major staffing issues that preceded COVID with ATC. Again just what I'm hearing but the "sickout" rumor appears to be wishful thinking from certain folks on the right.
As far as airline CEOs supposedly b!tching about vax mandates they maybe should've thought about that before repeatedly taking hundreds of millions of dollars of public money.

For those on both sides of the Vaccine debate:
Decisions have consequences.
Its time folks starting learning what accountability is once again.

My flight today was late but not cancelled, quite happy that it wasn't. There were a lot of cancellations for SWA today though. When I walked through ATL after getting off the plane, half the gates were empty because of cancelled flights.
If it were ATC issues wouldn't that affect all airlines and not just the one that's pushing for the vaccine mandate now?

RE: Massive ‘call in sick’ leaves SouthWest teetering as Union is against mandatory vaxx
URGENT: A Southwest Airlines pilot explains why you will not hear anything about vaccine mandates from his union - and why Southwest has more flexibility than it admits to stand up to the White House
Quote:The pilot emailed following the first Southwest post today (and provided his SWA ID to prove his identity). He asked that I paraphrase the email.
Essentially, the union cannot organize or even acknowledge the sickout, because doing so would make it an illegal job action. Years ago, Southwest and its pilots had a rough negotiation, and the union would not even let the pilots internally discuss the possibility of working-to-rule (which would have slowed Southwest to a crawl).
But at the moment the pilots don’t even have to talk to each other about what they’re doing. The anger internally - not just among pilots but other Southwest workers - is enormous. The tough prior negotiations notwithstanding, Southwest has a history of decent labor relations, and workers believe the company should stand up for them against the mandate. Telling pilots in particular to comply or face termination has backfired.
—
Meanwhile, Southwest has more flexibility than it has acknowledged. Federal contracts represent about 3 percent of its revenue, but even the Biden administration CANNOT alter existing contracts (please note, I have not checked this, though it seems reasonable); Southwest is only at risk of losing future contracts.
This pilot believes that the fact that the airlines received $25 billion in no-strings-attached cash for “payroll support” last year (as well another $25 billion in loans) has made them particularly reluctant to stand up to the Biden administration. Southwest’s CEO, Gary Kelly, may be in an especially tough spot since he is the head of the airline lobbying group.
—
Finally: This pilot says he loves Southwest and finds the crisis painful but feels that if this is the only way Americans can stand up to these mandates, then let the chips fall.
