We don't go for 35-yard fg's, but then go for 50+ yarders.
We put the frosh out there when he's just now getting healthy, then jerk him back out to put the punter out there.
We miss friggin XP's with different kickers.
It's atrocious.
Makes me think Silverfield is one of those coaches who doesn't really put much personal time into that aspect, and simply delegates it.

We can armchair coach the game after the game but I am pretty sure they have a better grip of the game than us. If RS would have left the freshman out there, you would complain they should put Doyle in. If we used Doyle and he missed also, the you would say put someone else in. If we kick and miss, you would say we should have gone for it. If we go for it and miss, you would say kick the FG.

Oh, I didn't wait until after the game. I was yelling when he put the punter back in. I was yelling when we missed FOUR KICKS.
If you don't see the mess that is the kicking game, and the lack of quality coaching in that area, then I don't know what to tell you.

With your vast knowledge of special teams or football in general. Apply for the job. We need the help.

Oh so you are one of those people who think you have to be a recognized chef to know **** tastes bad. That is not a good way to be.

He couldn't do worse. This whole coaching staff is a damn trainwreck

Bad losses matter. Bunch of idiots.

Train wreck and idiots. LMAO.

How easily you forget last year's 8-3 record. Funny i never heard you say our staff is a train wreck or an idiot then. And if my memory serves me correctly, we:
1. Beat UCF for the first time in 13 tries
2. Won a freakin' bowl game
3. Beat Navy at Navy.

Please STFU and be a true fan or move on. We're all disappointed, but hell, be realistic. We're in a funk that will pass and we will get better for it.

Can't have rainbows and unicorns ever year, y'all.

GTG!

Then your memories are bad Shere was way ahead of the curve on this

Some positives: Seth Henigan is a baller and he is only going to get better. Our receivers are great. Brandon Thomas and Dreke Clark are great (did they get injured?) I liked the play calling for the most part. I love seeing Henigan throw the ball down the field. CA3 is a superstar.

Some negatives: The defense sucks. Our kicker(s) suck(s). The o-line sucks.

I think if the defense and special teams don’t get a lot better really fast, we need to be looking for new coordinators for next year.

I am pretty much in this camp. Defense and ST are holding this team back. Of course, the TO's hurt very much as well.

Silverfield not being our coach or a anything close to a buy out - not even a remote conversation on this topic is real or relevant.

You are two years minimum away from this conversation even if he tanks next year.

Yeah I think most of us are aware of this. Still should be forced to replace the DC because he is complete ass.

Seems they don’t know their personnel very well. New kid badly shanks a short FG and you throw him out there for a long one? You bring the other kicker in, but decide not to kick a short FG? The decision making is all over the place.

Which is exactly what I'm talking about. Some wise-guys want to take my comment and extrapolate that I am saying I know more about coaching than they do. To be clear, I wouldn't know how to start to tell a kicker how to improve his technique. But the knee-jerk decisions on our kicking, and the OBVIOUS lack of consistency and quality, absolutely screams that there is poor coaching and leadership in this area.

I guess we’ve given up on getting into the Big 12.

You don’t get rid of head coaches in their second season at a school like ours. Adjustments need to be made but if you get rid of Silverfield every other coach taking this job will remember that. Much better to be the nonP5 school (hopefully P5) that coaches go to for several years and then go to VA Tech or FL State.

I don’t know why some of this is so hard to understand. It wasn’t that long ago that we were known amongst coaches as a “coaching graveyard.”

You want to really not get into a P5? Have a coaching carrousel.

For good measure throw in their AD budgets and recruiting classes compared to ours. How many coaches are they paying?

You don’t get rid of a CEO after one bad earnings call. This is not a “glass is half full Silverfield and staff are awesome” post. All is not right.

But I’m a realist and I look through things both in terms of history, current environment, and multi-year outlooks.

RE: Silverfield's contract
Seriously, Porter shouldnt be used as an example, he was an absolute disaster, a terrible hire, and it was easy to see from the very first illegal formation play until he was fired. Someone said something about his good recruiting.. from what I remember he got a lot of higher star kids to list us, some even would verbally commit to us, but it sure seemed like none of them ever made it to the campus. I am not for or against Silverfield at this point. I am absolutely sold against his choice of staff, starting with his DC. A large part of his job is his ability to bring in staff, if this is his best, we are in trouble. If he does the right thing and improves his staff, that will be a step in the right direction.

Yep. Love my alma matter and we have some great boosters but for better or worse we aren’t getting P5 $$$. We are trying to get into a P5 and while it’s easy to look at is as having a down year during a time we are trying to join the P5 club we are also a potential mistake away from having rip Scherer version 2.0 (hopefully we never have another porter) and a string of bad hires.

We have to be really intentional with everything right now and can’t afford to look at single games or a single season.
