I admittedly wasn’t there today because of a family function, and driving 4 hours there and back on back to back weekends didn’t sound like a good time, but I’m bitter about going to the game last week and seeing no progress from the past 3 seasons, namely, getting crushed by quality OOC teams. But I guess all is forgiven because we’re now one step closer to another piddly ass championship that won’t bring in casual fans.

those piddly ass championships are a big reason we are the number one contender to move to the AAC.

You gonna make me say it...............those championships really aren't a big reason for being a contender for the AAC. It's our tv market, R1 tier ranking, and investments in our athletics.

Lets be real, being the #1 contender for an AAC invite is like being selected for a shopping spree at Winn Dixie. It's alright but Target would have been better!

I’d say investment in our programs and not terrible attendance probably has more to do with it.

#1 investment in athletics (commitment)
#2 academic/research rep
#3 competitiveness in football and basketball

In that order but the gaps are very close. All three are important.

Attendance is down literally everywhere, we're still in a pandemic, and we have an awful home schedule this year. We got blown out last week at home and looked horrible.

It is what it is. Homecoming in 2 weeks against Rice so come to the game. I'm really looking forward to it.

Yup. I feel like I went to clam bake today as the clam but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Will say I have never seen so many people on a concourse during a football game. Some of it was the sun but also the place was just made for strolling as well as standing and watching.

It's a helluva stadium. Need some kind of scoreboard in the north endzone.

Yep to all points...

RE: Attendance
Nothing will improve attendance unless you win the games that we haven’t. The casual football fan ain’t stupid and they know good football when they see it. I’m sorry they don’t see that when they look at us. You cannot, absolutely cannot have performances in games as what we played last week.

I feel like sometimes folks are looking for talking points for when they talk with their friends (or enemies) about UAB attendance...

RE: Attendance
I’m out of town, but I know my 3 tickets didn’t go unused today. Uncle got to take his two youngest to what I believe is their first ever UAB football game today.

Whether it be here or on the Facebook group, I’ve seen dozens of folks trying to give away tickets this week. It’s not a good look.

I’m wondering who exactly is ever faithful, ever loyal outside of the 5k that were there for the Smackdown we got from USM in McGees last year. I see many of those same folks at all football and basketball games.

Good grief...

We have a stadium so awesome, that there are places fans will rather be than in the seats sometimes. Yes, I took pictures of fans crowding the concourse for shade. The club area is always full. We still had the largest home crowd in C-USA.

Oh yeah... we won.

We won and are undefeated in CUSA. Those trashing attendance need to watch some other games and see all the empty seats in SEC stadiums and across the country. Tickets sold is the only relevant number. To me. To our AD. To CUSA. To the AAC. No one cares what Blazer68395739371 thinks our attendance was.

RE: Attendance
I do not think we should be upset over 25k fans showing up. I know it does not look good for TV, but there were a lot of people who moved from the east side to the shade on the west side. I can not really blame them. Many left at halftime. They paid for a ticket. Leaving early is there choice. UAB has a tendency when up at half time to slow the game down the second half. It is not as much fun to watch. 25k is not bad when we are at the same time as Auburn/Georgia. My question is how many would more would have come out if we had beaten Liberty? I think we would have had over 30k. We have a new stadium. I am talking to non UAB fans everyday who want to come check it out. We need to make sure they have a great time and enjoy watching our blazers. There is plenty of room for everyone.

RE: Attendance
As one who hasn’t been able to get home for a game and can only watch on TV, the empty seats aren’t pretty, but let’s be honest. When they announced 45-47k capacity, I knew it would look bad for several years. If we have a great crowd of 30k, one that by far would lead the conference in attendance, the optics are going to suck. A crowd of 25k means we are essentially half full. It is what it is.

Here’s the deal-We have a new, state of the art, $200 million dollar stadium. We will never have to go back to Lesion Field. We’re winning football games and championships and we have the luxury of complaining about how we’re playing.

Hell with the optics, let’s play football, and enjoy it

RE: Attendance
For the non-UAB fans that criticize attendance, I say we’re still growing our fan base. Others in our state have had over 100 years to do so. At a time where national attendance is trending down, ours is increasing.

RE: Attendance
That was our base there yesterday. It usually declines as the season moves on so I hope we can maintain that 25K for the rest of our home games. I'm hoping I don't miss a home game this season.

Until we can gain some national recognition and credibility in our market, I think that's our ceiling for now. Only way I see us boosting attendance short term (without big wins OOC) is moving the games to Thursday or Friday night.

The new stadium is still too big for UAB. A 30,000 seat stadium would have been perfect and adequate enough for the AAC. Keep in mind Yulman Stadium (Tulane) is a 30,000 seat stadium built while in the AAC.

But better and more modern stadium with lesser seats than Legion Field is still a better outcome. Best outcome still would have been an OCS.

Beggars can't be choosy.

True, for right now, but why build for the present? I like the size although I wish the grass berm would have been kept. Didn't really need the extra seating and the extra green would have been nice. Not sure it needed the deck either at this point (even for the Bham Bowl) but probably less costly to add it initially.

Yulman is perfect for a private school. UAB is a large and growing state university. I think 30K would have been thinking too small.
