Muffed Punts
The opposing team has muffed 3 punts in the last two games, and I believe there were 1 or 2 in the first 3 games. I'm starting to think there is something odd about Mason Fletcher's punts that make them hard to field.

Slightly off topic, but Fletcher has been a pleasant surprise. I was pretty worried about losing James Smith, but Fletcher has stepped right in and we've hardly missed a beat.

He kicks a knuckleball. Not pretty but effective.

In all three cases uc’s special teams was right there, ready to retrieve the ball.

Wasn't the ND one a kickoff?

And Fletcher was right in there mixing it up on the last fumble - most have flown down the field. Dude is going to be a legend when he's done here.

RE: Muffed Punts
UC special teams got spoiled covering James Smith punts. His punts had so much hang time, that it was nearly impossible for an opposing team to ever have a chance of returning a punt.

Surprising how many people do not understand "The Muff Rule". People sitting next to me asked "Why was that not a touchdown?"

Fletcher has been huge this season. A bad punter can cost you games, but the true freshman has played above average. That’s all you can ask.

I understand the rule. Just never understood why they made it the rule.

Same here. A fumble should be a fumble.

RE: Muffed Punts
If you never possess the punt it’s not really a fumble though. That’s why they made the rule.

Sure. But they could just as easily make a rule that if it hits the punt returner, it's a live ball.

If it hits the punt returner it is a live ball...you just can’t advance it.

In HS we had the rule but they said it was to keep guys from getting killed on returns. Made no sense then either.
