Dave twardzik, my hero
My daughter is a student at virginia tech in sports journalism. Her first class assignment was to get someone in her line of work that she wanted to be like. She had did some work for ODU during the break and they gave her a chance to interview Mr. Twardzik and they wound up chatting for almost an hour. The teacher, from what my daughter heard was really tough on grading, but when he saw the interview and realized who it was, he was so excited because he grew up idolizing Mr. Twardzik. My respects and many thanks to him for doing this interview when my daughter was starting out and now she has became sports editor of the collegiate times and has ran with the sports bug and has covered some pretty big names in interviews, but she says none will be bigger than dave twardzik. He has given his permission for this publication and even provided my daughter with some fabulous pics. My hero, Mr. Dave Twardzik. Here is the interview publication. Please read it and let me know what you think.

Nicely done interview of one of my all time favorites. I'm old enough and have been following ODU basketball long enough to have had the pleasure of seeing Dave play in an ODU uniform - as well as play for the Squires and Trail Blazers. I still regard him as ODU's best point guard ever.

Thanks for the post.

We must be in the same age group. I also remember going to see him play and he is still a class guy and One of my all time favorites. Smart young lady that did an excellent interview. She will do well in life after Tech and I wish her the absolute best.

And BBall… it’s not even close. I’d say Twardzik was the best player we had at any position. True quarterback of the team but also, the spark plug, glue, leader and offensive giant too. Wish the younger fans could have seen him play. The real deal.

RE: Dave twardzik, my hero
Great article and nicely done. I hope your daughter finds success and joy in the wide world of sports. I too go back to the Dave Twardzik days and agree he was the greatest player I ever saw play for the Monarchs. The fact he started on an NBA World Championship team and had his NBA jersey retired adds support to my take on him as a player. As to his being an all around good guy in addition to a great player I will share this story. As a HS student I got his autograph on the game program when ODU won the NCAA Regional and Dave T set the NCAA record for free throws in a playoff game. A few years ago I brought that program back to an ODU home game and asked him to sign it again and date it. He was most kind in resigning it and pointed out how his autograph was still the same. Then he allowed me to get a couple of pictures with him and later came up and visited with my wife and I in the stands. In every way he is an exemplar of the PRIDE of the Monarchs.
