NIU Ranked #22
And you knocked WVU from #3 all the way down to #21.
United Soccer Coaches Poll For Oct 10th 2021
Thank you! I checked it out and noticed a lot of the teams in the top 25 are east/northeast-based teams. Is that where most of the successful/strong soccer programs are located or is that just how it is playing out this year?
You are going to see a lot of ACC, BE, CUSA and a few PAC 12 school in there most of the time. With a spattering of other conferences. Right now the MAC has 3 teams in Bowling Green #17, WVU #21 and now NIU at 22. And New Hampshire is having an exceptional year sitting at 12-0 and 4th in the coaches poll.
Poll Breakdown right now:
ACC 4 schools: VA Tech, Pitt, Duke and Clemson
CUSA 3 schools: Marshall, Kentucky and FIU
MAC 3 schools: Bowling Green, WVU and NIU
PAC 12 2 schools: Washington and Oregon State
Big East 2 schools: Georgetown and Providence
AAC 2 schools: Tulsa and SMU
A10 1 school: Saint Louis
BIG 10 1 school: Maryland
MVC 1 school: Missouri State
CAA 1 school: JMU
WCC 1 school: Loyola Marymount
SoCon 1 school: UNCG
Ivy 1 school: Cornell
WAC 1 school: Grand Canyon
Marshall has beat Bowling Green (RV at the time) and Akron (#20 at the time) and Marshall (#6 at the time) had a 2 OT draw with WVU (#4 at the time) 2-2. The former WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc (2006-2019) for some reason refused to schedule Marshall even though at the time neither program was going to hurt the other as neither was in danger of making the NCAAs most years.
The SEC nor B12 doesn't sponsor soccer. Both Kentucky and South Carolina play in CUSA and WVU is in their last year of the MAC. They will join CUSA next year.
