Nice little trip down memory lane. Crazy that Adonis was ranked that high and just could never get it together in college/pros. Tweener disease.

believe that list cuts off at 2003, which is why Juanny Wagner isn't on there

Did he not change positions when he came to Memphis? I thought he was more of a 4 in high school but wanted to play the 3 at Memphis?

I never really got the Adonis hype. Saw him in the McDonald’s game and was underwhelmed by his athleticism. Saw him at memphis and it was more of the same.

I remember hearing that he could play the 2 or 3–

He looked like what many people think an nba player should look like but he did not have the skills to play 2 or 3 and was too short to play 4

Adonis did just fine, and was a Memphis kid who played here and helped the teams make two NCAA tourneys in his two years. He was hurt for one. Wish he was here in 2014 we would have won more games

Adonis showed signs of greatness before he got hurt. He never looked as aggressive or as explosive after that.

Kareem Cooper on their twice? I don’t remember him being THAT good?

Look how far down Jeremiah Martin is…and he’s arguably top 5 Tigers on this list.

I found Garcia, but didn’t find Simpkins? ?Also, no Derrick Chew?!?

Simpkins is 7 spots below Garcia.

And at a quick glance it looks like a good number of the very top recruits have come from Penny's efforts including 3 of the top 5.

Yeah, think he knew he couldn't cut it at PF in NBA so he wanted to develop more of a wing game. Seemed like a great kid but I do think that ankle (I think) injury really set him back and he just never seemed to fully recover.

It does. I believe the 247 player database might go back further, but the actual rankings start in 2003.

I seem to recall DJ Stephens & David Wingett being unranked players, at least before we signed them. This list shows them as "3 stars"?

Also funny to see Joey Dorsey so far down the list (#75), considering how critical a piece of the 2008 team he was.

It's also interesting that 5 of the top 10 are Hardaway signees.

Joey was still a role player who fit that team well. He wasn't really looking to score but was quick to pick up any misses. He might have been suspended if he played for any other coach than Cal.

Joey was only 6'8", short for a starting center on a top-5 college bb team. He made up for his lack of height with his strength & toughness.

RE: A Look At Tiger BB Recruiting Back To 2000
Looking at the top 25, it's fairly evenly split between 3 coaches:
Calipari: 9
Pastner: 9
Penny: 7

You have to go pretty far down the list to get to the highest ranked Tubby Smith players, T. Burrell @ #51 & K Davenport @ #52.

Notable omission - Rodney Carney. AP 2nd team All-American in 2006. He may be too early for this list, as he was HS class of 2002.
