Senior Judge Susan Reed initially ruled that the boy should be removed from Richard and Barbara Bernhardt's home, but she reversed her decision this week after learning that they have a medical condition, celiac disease, that they say prevents them from taking the vaccine, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
I am just absolutely appalled at this. Not the end result, but the fact that these parents had to essentially 'make up' a medical exemption in order to remain as foster parents. There is no link between the vaccine and Celiac. They may well have it and it could cause some reactions, but the risk is all but zero.... still, this is horrible and shows how political this has become
The risk to the child of serious repercussions from getting covid is next to zero... as no comorbidities are mentioned and that would be item #1 on my argument if I wanted to try and force this.
So its wrong on two counts
1) taking a kid from a home because of a vaccine and
2) which I'm not upset about but it shows the lack of depth in the argument, the subjective nature of the objection.
If its so serious that we would remove a FOSTER child from what sounds like an otherwise safe home, it should take more than celiac to 'reverse' it. It's not like we have long lines of decent people just waiting to be foster parents.
