RE: Lets talk Alternatives to Marshall
If Marshall is out, JMU and ODU are my next choices. It would be nice to drive to another away game besides Coastal. An ODU trip would be similar to a Coastal trip: a weekend at the beach, with a football game thrown in.

And if App could alternate years hosting Coastal and ODU? That's an App State beach trip every year.

Tough call between UTSA (for Texas State sake) and JMU, but I think the SBC's future lies to the East not the West.

They're a football first school with good attendance, and they're located in a smaller market similar to most SBC schools. I'm just not sure the western schools would sign off on them but maybe they would as long as USM is still on board.

I also don't see the eastern schools voting for two western additions so Rice and UTSA are out if we're staying at 12 with USM being #11.

JMU so fits the model that has been core to our success.

Assuming that Southern Miss is still good to go. What should the league do next? Setting this as a poll, but you are open to discuss

As a MAC guy, my hunch is that WKU would be an ideal substitute and appealing to the western SBC schools since WKU is situated closer to them than an east coast school such as JMU.

We don't need more western schools, do we? We need more Eastern based programs. Marshall is ideal for basketball and because there is a history with App State and Georgia Southern. Also there are a ton of West Virginians in the Carolinas.

If not Marshall, I wouldn't mind FAU. If their resident poster is to be believed, they wouldn't come without FIU so that's a non-starter.

Give me Liberty or give me death...I know which one I'd choose.

WKU would be a good addition but underwhelming from a fan interest standpoint. Another program App has no history with that driving to is out of the question for most people.

JMU is fine as long as we can ban streamers from stadiums.

I wish people would quit thinking in terms of east addition or west addition.

Look back at our recent history. EKU and Liberty got shot down and then we had a majority of the membership support NMSU but came up short of 3/4ths and then got 100% for Coastal. That’s a heckuva swing from Las Cruces to Conway, SC.

The criteria should be best available, that improves the league, within or footprint adjacent. Thinking there is a magic ratio of east or west is what helped produce CUSA 3.0

If you want schools who only care about football then UTSA would be a fit and to a lesser extent FAU.

FAU has the better football program, but I think they also care about other sports more than UTSA.

Just PRETENDING none of the CUSA schools will jump, I would definitely take JMU. They would make the transition very quick and easy imo.

The best over all add out of everyone....including Marshall and So Miss is Liberty.

Ya don’t get a vote without joining. Thanks for playing.

I honestly believe there is no other school in the East that might be available that brings more to the conference.

If you add UTSA and USM you leave the East on an island when there is already reporting that a few schools are looking at options for an East Coast Conference. If the East were alienated in this process further, it could be the nail in that coffin, even if it doesn't happen immediately.

I don't think the West would do that to the eastern members though considering most power in performance and branding is concentrated there.

Yes please. I would take that over the AAC for sure.

What island? Y'all have multiple schools already, we are 7 hours from our closest.

Yes.

I can’t speak for them, but I have to think if Marshall, UAB, and USM all bail, WKU would be quickly packing its bags.

If we want best available it has to be USM and JMU. I know Texas State wants a closer team but I’m not sure UTSA is it for us.

What about pulling up Sam Houston State as a Texas State travel partner? They fit the Sun Belt really well by having a large student base, good football team, and are in a small town near a big city.

Tempting. We have UTA though. Are we 100% sure they are leaving? I think if we can add 2 and keep UTA and Little Rock that would be good for us. Travel partners would only need to be altered slightly if Southern Miss and JMU joined.

There are 8 SB schools in the central time zone, 4 in the east. If wanting just a little bit of balance is crying in the eyes of the western schools then maybe the eastern schools do need to look elsewhere.

The Eastern time zone is also smaller than the Central time zone . . . think distance/mileage would be a better metric . . .

So, somehow, losing 2 western schools and replacing them with 2 western schools is just not fair to the eastern schools?

Good to know what you guys think of us.
