RE: Lets talk Alternatives to Marshall
If Marshall takes the AAC bait, the first call goes to San Antonio. The next in line is not even close.

Not picking them would be a horrible mistake.

I think MTSU, or WKU I think I rather MTSU! It can’t be that far from CCU, GS, and App St, and of course GSU. With Southern Miss.

That’s assuming that AAC takes UAB, Marshall, and FAU.

Thinking about Texas State... I'd say UTSA.

Otherwise, I'd pick WKU.

The Sunbelt has a solid travel partner model set up that helps alleviate the large footprint.

If Marshall is not coming I would look to UTSA to keep that model as Texas St's partner

UTSA for the travel partner to TX State.

JMU would be nice since the have excellent athletic programs as well as have a presence further north closer to student recruitment areas and alumni populations. But I'm concerned they feel like they are too good for the SBC.

FAU. I love the location. Would help recruiting in Florida and Georgia Southern recruits i heavily in Florida. Not the same administration when they were in the Sun Belt before. With Southern Mississippi, you will have 5 schools near the coast for a beach excursion.

I would rather UTSA, but I voted JMU because when USM comes, all the East coast babies will whine if the next taken is more than 200 miles from the Atlantic. JMU is solid in football, has good hoops, decent baseball and fantastic softball, and is a good cultural fit. I honestly believe there is no other school in the East that might be available that brings more to the conference.

Honest question: Why do people want UTSA? If you don't count Houston you'd have to go back to 2013 the last time a Texas G5 team won a bowl game. I don't mean offense to any one program, but the whole state seems to be full of programs with money and nice facilities and good fan bases but no real consistent winners, and to me just because UTSA has been solid the last couple of seasons doesn't mean they're coming along as a program.

If we're just trying to create travel partners that's fine, but I'd honestly rather have WKU, FAU, or even Charlotte before UTSA.

Mostly I think they are a good travel partner with improving football.

WKU is a great choice as well. They fit the footprint nicely and bring quality football and basketball.

I'm not a fan of FAU or UNCC.

As much as I hate it - we are going to have to pick after the AAC. Right now, CUSA and the Sun Belt are waiting to see if they lose any teams - or if the 'other' conference is trying to poach from it.

I think we will know something late this season (like around bowl season) at the soonest.

I can’t see utsa or Rice coming to the Belt . . . So, let’s take Southern Miss, and Mizzouri St.

RE: Lets talk Alternatives to Marshall
Regarding JMU.

This is a tough one. Remember, the Sun Belt has added App State, Georgia Southern, and Coastal from FCS. How did that go?

Georgia Southern won the conference the first year, App State every year after that up to last year, and then last year Coastal (with an asterisk I guess with no CCG, but undefeated in Conference play). So the 'new guys' are doing fantastic. I think Coastal or App State have been in the Top 25 for the longest amount of time (in weeks). Maybe Coastal is the winner - I am pretty sure they are the highest a Sun Belt team has ever been ranked.

My point is that FCS to FBS has worked out pretty well so far, wouldn't you agree?

If you add UTSA and USM you leave the East on an island when there is already reporting that a few schools are looking at options for an East Coast Conference. If the East were alienated in this process further, it could be the nail in that coffin, even if it doesn't happen immediately.

I don't think the West would do that to the eastern members though considering most power in performance and branding is concentrated there.

RE: Lets talk Alternatives to Marshall
As for who to take, the best overall athletic programs in CUSA are by far WKU and La Tech.

If you want schools who only care about football then UTSA would be a fit and to a lesser extent FAU.

FAU has the better football program, but I think they also care about other sports more than UTSA.

Just PRETENDING none of the CUSA schools will jump, I would definitely take JMU. They would make the transition very quick and easy imo.

The best over all add out of everyone....including Marshall and So Miss is Liberty.

It doesn't matter. You don't get to believe him because he hasn't posted a link. You can't go to another board and say "chiefsfan said" just like you can't say BOP said, remember?

Yes please. I would take that over the AAC for sure.

That is correct. Just because I believe someone doesn't mean I can go and tell others and defend it, when I don't have a link to a reliable source. 07-coffee3
