RE: Official NIU-Toledo predictions!!!!!!
NIU's greatest advantage when facing Toledo is that the Huskies believe that this is a huge rivalry game and winning is a must! Toledo does not. This always gives NIU a huge advantage because winning is expected by the alumni, fans and coaches.

And CMU believes NIU is a rival or something? IMO the players understand what the game means (No way to prove that either way). And theyve obviously figured that out the last 5 times.

For Campbell teams it was an issue, but overall NIU was a better team from year to year then. UT fans just love the fact NIU doesnt have a true rival which reciprocate the thought. We are 32-16 against the Huskies. Just in terms of amt of games, like 9 MAC teams we have played more often. Also Toledo has typically blown games in November when the landscape of the conference was better laid out. This is game #2... Gotta win some before getting cocky and blowing a big one. EMU or someone will probably stub our toe.

RE: Official NIU-Toledo predictions!!!!!!
For some reason, I'm not expecting a win against Toledo. But, in true Huskie form, I think they can win.

Keys to the game are in 3 places. D-Line performance and our QB play and play calling (staff).
D-Line needs to get a solid pass rush on as well as stop the run. Obviously, this has been a challenge for them throughout the season to be consistent. No INT's or fumbles is a key. I like running a little QB option to keep Toledo's D honest. If we don't do something to loosen up the running game, it will be a long night. If they successfully stack the box, its over.

Another key to the game is penalties. I am sure our youth will play a part in the outcome, which is why I am skeptical about winning. But, like anything else, anyone can win given with the right circumstances.

This time, we need a few breaks and no mental breakdowns. Unfortunately, I see
Toledo 34
Huskies 24

However, next few years, will be a different story. I like our chances in 2022 and 2023. By then, we will see where we stand.

RE: Official NIU-Toledo predictions!!!!!!
Its tough to make an accurate prediction with our Huskies - sometimes we look like MAC contenders and other times we look like the 0-6 team from last year (sometimes in the same game in different half's). Our D is what it is; I saw some improvement in the EMU game and hopefully that continues. I'm presuming that Waylee is out for the game. Antonio Brown will have a very good game (150 or so yards) if Rocky can keep the Toledo D honest with his passing (which is not a given). If Rocky can make some good decisions on the zone read (and not fumble the exchange) his legs will help even more opening up the running game for Brown and Rat. I'm predicting Rocky will have a good game passing (250+ yards) and we pull out a nail-bitter 27-24.

I worry about NIU's lack of a pass rush.

Quote: A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Rockets come into the matchup boasting the 13th fewest rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation at one. On the other end of the spectrum, NIU is 244th worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 16 on the season. So the cards are definitely stacked against NIU.

I would tend to agree but Cole Tucker is out and he crucial in 3rd down situations. Hopefully they use the tight ends more,

I hope that we are just a young team with growing pains. I fear that we may be bipolar.

This is basically a 50/50 game.

NIU has a great chance to win outright (significantly better than the “computers” at espn say) but there is no fooking way they don’t cover that laughable 12.5pt spread.

On a side note: those same computers at espn are the ones used to calculate recruiting classes and preseason Conference Champions.

FREE MONEY.

Yea, maybe Toledo should start treating it like a rivalry game. I don't know what we'd do with the nonrivalry trophy then.

Well, I am glad we won.
The D-line played pretty well on Saturday. QB play was mixed, but we really didn't turn the ball over. I don't remember seeing an Int. or fumble on our side.
We still had a lot of penalties, but, for the most part, they didn't hurt us.
I think the play calling was pretty good.

The main reason we won this game is 2 factors. The field goal team had a good day and the Toledo QB and receivers had a bad day. Either dropped passes or QB misses on their their side killed their chances.

All in all, NIU played a good game. I wish Rocky was a little more accurate, but I felt he has lead the team well when they needed it.
The play calling was better on O today as well.

All we need to do is get better each game, continue to develop the talent on the team now and improve the secondary. We hopefully, can find a kicker for next year as well if we don't have one already.

Yes, I know this year is not over, but I like where we are heading so far. There were no expectations on NIU this year and they are slowly proving them wrong. Let's become bowl elgible and then win the division and MAC CC. Go Huskies!
