We also used to be the Trojans.
We should bring out a throwback uniform concept with that, and wear them only when when we play Troy just to screw with them lol. #BattleoftheTrojans

RE: Interesting things about your school
I've got two:
Four NASA astronauts are Troy University alumni... one who was the pilot of space shuttle Discovery, another who was the pilot of Columbia and Atlantis, and another who was the pilot of Endeavour. The fourth astronaut was mission commander of Endeavour.
The highest scoring basketball game in NCAA history took place in 1992... Troy State Trojans vs. DeVry Hoyas (back when they actually had athletics; competed in NAIA). Final score was 258-141.

From 1940-1947 we were known as the Georgia Evening College Owls.
And the Ramblers after that.
And even the Crimson Panthers for a bit (An Alabama grad President ripped it off).

We hosted Wake Forest about 5 years ago in football and lost 20 to 19 if I recall.

And his first concert on his first real tour was at the Fieldhouse at Arkansas State.
Elvis Presley was made an honorary TKE at Arkansas State and he kept the plaque on top of his TV at Graceland (can see it in season one of Peyton’s Places on ESPN+
Arkansas State owns the home Johnny Cash grew up in and turned it into a museum and hosts the annual Johnny Cash music festival.
The university museum has a Rockabilly exhibit and large collection of memorabilia.
AState has another museum of the home where Hemingway wrote most of Farewell to Arms and hosts writer camps.
The Arkansas State System has grown to include five community colleges (several with branch campuses] and two four year schools AState Jonesboro and Henderson State which is the only system school not called Arkansas State.

Yep! I believe i read it’s the alpha male pushing out the younger male before he gets too threading to his harem. The younger one got relocated to the wild.
Scenes around the terraces outside the U, around the lake
A friendly reminder in the Lake. And believe it not, and I’m sure y’all will, a few years back a laturd ‘grad’ had gone around campus taking pics of the all the ‘illegal’ usages of UL, as part of ‘legal’ case they were building. Still waiting for it to hit the dockets lol.
And we made ‘Life’ magazine in 1961 when the lake froze over and some students made the best of it

South Alabama has a swamp as well. Here are some pictures I took on my phone one spring. Check out the small gator in the last two.
Cool. Is this on campus?

App State was founded as Watauga Academy in 1899.
Roughly 30-40% of campus is a bio preserve, and is way too steep for any development, anyway. (It's the area behind the south endzone.)
It gets remarkably more snow than areas just 25 miles down the mountain. We had 14 inches one weekend when I was a student. I had to go see my then girlfriend (now wife) at her college, and i passed through Wilkesboro, roughly 25 miles away. They had less than an inch.
The last P5-equivalent program to play at App State in either football or basketball, prior to Miami football in 2016, was UNC basketball in 2000, my freshman year, which was also the year the convocation center opened.
Pretty much all the buildings on campus built since the mid-90s have green metal roofs.
The railroad line that was converted into the beautiful bike path called the Virginia Creeper Trail, from the NC state line through Damascus, VA to Abingdon, VA, passed through Todd, NC. Todd is a tiny hamlet about 10-15 minutes from Boone. The railroad line was sold (or given?) to adjacent property owners in NC. If you look really closely on Google maps, you can still see where the old railroad line was in Todd and elsewhere on the NC side.
I've always wanted to go visit y'all's campus. I've heard it's beautiful. My sister went with her husband and his friend who was a grad and she said they had a great time aside from freezing their butts off on the hill. They had to take like 3 blankets to keep from freezing.
This is a pretty neat thread.
