The Rolling Stones first College Concert in America was at Georgia Southern. The opening acts ran late, the Stones weren’t happy and neither were the concert goers. Literally a few days later they wrote and recorded “(I can’t get no) Satisfaction”

Arkansas State has had two winners of reality TV shows.
Buddy Jewel (played football for stAte too) won season 1 of Nashville Star.
Natalie White won season 19 of Survivor. She was 2 or 3 years behind me. Met her a time or two, but didn’t know her well. Neither ended up graduating and left after 2 or 3 years.

Ashley McBride won Country Music Showdown twice.

I remember reading about this a few years back on the anniversary. I was going to post that Lynnyrd Skynyrds last show before the plane crash that killed some of its members was in Statesboro, which I thought I remembered hearing, but I just fact checked and there were a few shows in between, it was a week later leaving out of Greenville, SC (heading to Baton Rouge fwiw).

Georgia Southern is mentioned in the Stephen King book 11/22/63 as the Alma mater of the protagonist’s love interest.

While not necessarily what we all imagine when we think of a swamp, there are high elevation wetlands called mountain bogs. Tater Hill Bog is/was campus property.

Yeah, ok. But let’s vote on who has the prettiest, easiest to access and most unique one.

South Alabama has a swamp as well. Here are some pictures I took on my phone one spring. Check out the small gator in the last two.

Cool. Is this on campus?

Yes it’s on the back of campus. It’s pretty big. A disc golf course runs along it, so good luck retrieving those bad throws lol.

Not A-State related but Jonesboro has a badass disc golf course on the ridge that is on the disc golf pro tour.

Troy’s stadium was named for a felon for a short time.

Not the stadium, the field. A lot of things all over Alabama were named after him before anyone knew he was a felon.

Well, although not technically part of UL’s campus, Girard Park borders it and besides being a beautiful space used for music festivals, etc, it also has a great disc golf course.

We have a pretty successful solar racer team (we won this year's 2021 American Solar Challenge)

Not to mention the new car has probably the coolest update to Yosef since the 70s on it.

Solar car is badass. I love the students pushing new technologies and having fun doing it. I'm jealous. Is 62 too old to go back to school? LOL.

While I was in college, some fraternity brothers made a CNN alert when they went in a plane over campus and tried to drop water balloons on a rival fraternity's house. They missed and the balloons landed in a parking lot. A faculty member saw it and the police/FBI was called. This was not long after 9/11 when all the anthrax threats were going on.

I’m 47 and currently paying for my kid to go to college. I’m extremely jealous of the meal cards, events on campus, housing. Moving him in felt like moving him into simmer camp for the next 4 years. I was ready to move in too. There’s should definitely be a college for retirement where we can all go back and really enjoy the experience knowing what we missed the first time around.

I think the most impressive thing with the solar car program is that App doesn't have an engineering school, so our tech department basically did everything from the ground up. They were able to get an old shell body from Iowa State's program (for the first car) but everything else as I understand it was built from scratch.

So I guess being in the cradle of NASCAR still has its perks, lol.

I don’t know if this has been stated yet on this thread but several buildings on App’s campus including Chapell Wilson Hall are new deal construction. It was originally Boone High school.
