I think the increasing possibility of instability with the AAC in the future versus the relative stability of the SBC is a significant factor. The AAC being refused by the MWC teams put USM higher up the AAC list, but from a budgetary standpoint as well as geography and fitting in with a similar type of institutions, USM to the SBC seems inevitable.

I agree. The AAC is wanting a budget at 40+ and renovations to Reed Green (already on the way) plus a buy-in, plus CUSA exit fees with no guarantee of Memphis staying. We shouldn’t pay that just to play Tulsa Tulane ECU Temple and SMU. We culturally and geography belong in the Belt and if we go there we will flourish.

***forgot the 10 year commitment. Yeah, no.

I think if a few teams from CUSA go to AAC, we won't have a problem finding someone to come here with USM.

Take USM and JMU to balance it out. JMU has as much potential as anyone in CUSA.

Adding USM is a no-brainer due to culture and location.

Those two would be my top choices at this time. Especially if Marshall wants to follow the path of ECU of almost killing off their athletic dept with debt and a bunch of teams locals could give a rats ass about.

Question is does JMU hate the CAA enough to move without any additional adds to the SBC East? Or would they rather join the depleted C-USA east? Also are they okay being in a conference that goes west of Georgia and Florida?

If Marshall is off the board for the east I think JMU, Liberty, and WKU have to be the top 3 you try to get one of.
If JMU doesn't want to be in a division with App, Coastal and Ga So then they deserve to stay in FCS forever.

The messaging coming out of JMU in regards to the CAA is night and day compared to a few years ago. JMU would probably leave the CAA for the SOCON at this point....the relationship is that bad.

I want Marshall in the SBC because it will be easier to make a run for best G5 league in the short term.

JMU would be the better long term add. They are in a much wealthier more populated state with the same commitment to athletics. Harrisonburg is only 2 hrs from DC.

Hell, with a little luck they could help us compete within 2-3 years.

What is our delusion? Thinking that Southern Miss and JMU would come to the Sun Belt? That seems like a really plausible option.

At this point, you are being baited.

I'd argue that there are four candidates better for a move to the AAC, if the cash were the same as it is now, from the SBC. The problem is that the cash isn't the same.

No one here understands you or why you at first are all gung-ho for the Sun Belt then saying you'd rather be anywhere else. Now saying you're going to the AAC when literally no one who is connected anywhere can corroborate your claims.

In short, no one cares.

RE: Orlando Sentinel: SBC Continues to Monitor Conference Realignment Moves
JMU isn't going to the AAC and I highly doubt Marshall is either. JMU's athletics budget doesn't line up and if their idea of expanding that is increasing student fees I highly doubt it's going to go well.

If the AAC wanted a rural program, they would go for someone who is already established in FBS. JMU also doesn't fit the profile that C-USA has wanted historically.

Thus, if JMU is going anywhere its the MAC or Sun Belt. That's likely to be their only realistic option.

... are you bipolar? What on earth is delusional about thinking that USM and Marshall or JMU might would come to the Sun Belt. I've learned you hate on everyone because you are drinking the kool aid that Marshall is the Alabama of the G5 world and everyone else is inferior.

Someone should put all of herdfans post together and send it to the school Presidents with a note telling them this is what you are letting in. It that won't happen and the leaders don't care. But man this guy is a mess.

I know there are some old guard fans of Southern Miss who wouldn’t want to see USM in the SBC but I think the new wave of fans to come through would enjoy it. It would provide them local teams to develop heated contests with. If USM loves playing Tech or UAB there is always OOC games.

The SBC of 2021 vs 2001 is as different as the C-USA 2021 vs 2001, in opposite directions. Most USM fans will recognize the fit and the logic, because they know how our resources and geography make more sense with the SBC than anywhere else in the G5. Some old guard fans won't be happy, but they still aren't over Jeff Bower being shown the door in 2007.

He has been exposed on this board as the fraud that he is and his feelings are fractured. I also agree with your closing sentence.
