WKU is in the book, but it's sadly not brought up in the movie.
Grisham likes to mention various schools in his books. The Julia Roberts character in The Pelican Brief is a Tulane Law School student I think (?), and I want to say one of his books features a Rice alum (maybe The Runaway Jury - it's been a long time since I've read it and I just don't remember). He's from Mississippi, so I have to think USM would be mentioned in one of his books?
I was looking up the Grisham-Rice connection and I can't find it anywhere online. But I do see that the Landry character in Friday Night Lights ends up going to Rice. Knowing Rice football, he probably blew out his knee early in his Rice career and ends up on a medical hardship scholarship is my guess.
I just read Grisham's "Sooley" a month ago, and it is about a college basketball player at NC Central (NCCU). Grisham's daughter goes to UVA, and he has a house in Charlottesville and is a big UVA hoops fan.

Brad D Smith- President of 3 companies, two of which were fortune 500, the last being of Intuit from 2008-2018.

That's the best they have for Brad Dourif? One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dune, The Two Towers (Lord of the Rings)? And they go with voice actor in Child's Play. Where ever you copy/pasted that from needs a better listing for him.

The vision is to bring real world cyber threats, tor data, black domains/sources into emulation and then deriving solutions that can be modeled, simulated and implemented in the defense sector as well as real world enterprises. The combination of VMASC and ODU SCS will be one of a kind in the world when all is said and done.
I wish they had cyber security when I was there. I have an associates in network security after I left odu but I wouldn't mind getting my bachelors or masters in cyber security if its offered.

Yeah they are being offered from what i can see and from what i heard they are covering more than just threats emerging from N/W's, pattern deviations, application/user behavioral anomalies and proactive threat blocking and source tracking. They are also offering Machine learning for passive threat detection and advanced remedies for enterprises. If you are interested you might want to check the course catalog out.

Neither really has given much to the Rice athletic department but I think Doerr has given a bit? (he's definitely given quite a bit to Rice in general - Armstrong is just 39 years old so someone needs to convince him athletics needs a donation). There may be some other Rice people on the list too (like some of the Dan Duncan heirs).
Here's the latest Forbes list if you want to search for your alums.

New Mexico State is a land grant school with a lot of agricultural research. For those that may not know, the Rio Grande Valley is a major producer of chili peppers. Chilis are a big deal in New Mexico. Restaurant servers will ask "Red or green?" to find out which sauce you want with your meal.
The Chile Pepper Institute at NMSU is the only international, non-profit organization devoted to education and research related to Capsicum, or chile peppers. Established in 1992, the Institute builds on the research of chile peppers since the famous horticulturalist Fabian Garcia (the father of the U.S. chile pepper industry) began standardizing chile pepper varieties in 1888.
Here's some information some may find interesting about the chili industry in New Mexico, since its a very different climate and agricultural region than some people may have been to before.
