So the MWC makes a statement about possible future expansion being on the table ... and at roughly the same time, an odd St. Louis announcement that they'll make an big announcement on Tuesday that affects all of its athletes.

Perhaps Gonzaga is being asked to join the MWC but wanted more "basketball first" schools/commitments to make the jump. St. Louis fits that bill. But why St. Louis instead of more west coast addition? Maybe St. Mary's is already on the west coast additions list. But it may also be because of its proximity to another basketball school in the Central Time Zone that the MWC could lure away if it was also adding Gonzaga and St. Mary's. What if the MWC is making a play for Gonzaga, St. Mary's, St. Louis and Wichita State? Not only does it take a valuable property from the AAC, it further raises the MWC above what the AAC is about to become (especially if Memphis is soon to be out the door to the Big 12).

W: Hawaii (fb-only), Gonzaga (non-fb), St. Mary (non-fb), Fresno State, San Jose State, San Diego State, Nevada, UNLV
E: Boise State, Utah State, Wyoming, Colorado State, Air Force, New Mexico, Wichita State (non-fb) and St. Louis (non-fb)

For balance, it seems like they need one more non-fb school on the west side and they'll need a new west division fb school if they lose Boise State to the Big 12 soon.

Could Navy be lured away by the prospects of West Coast games for fb-only in a conference with Air Force - abandoning the sinking ship (pun intended) of the AAC?
At most we'd take Gonzaga as a non fb school. St.Mary's plays in high school gym. St.Louis doesn't fit us or them. If the Zags are a no, we might take Wichita if they want to pay to leave the AAC, I don't see them doing that.
I think Wichita would only jump to the MWC if it was paired with Gonzaga. Otherwise too lateral of a move basketball wise to pay the exit fee. Wichita is probably more interested in talking with the Big East and reigniting the Creighton rivalry since the Big East has signaled they are open for expansion.

The Mountain West Conference is the last Gang of 5 Conference that needs to add Division 1-AA teams, and that includes North Dakota State.

The AAC could add James Madison if they can't get anyone else, but that's unlikely. Or the Sun Belt could add them if they can't get anyone to come with Southern Miss.

IF Missouri State ever lands in Division 1-A, it will either be in Conference USA, or a newly formed eastern-based conference compromised of current members of Conference USA. That is going to be Missouri State's only options for FBS football.

Also, is it David Saint, David Street, or something totally different?

David State. Wayne State and Upper Iowa are their big rivals. Go you Fightin’ Realignmentologists! (Mascot is an off-brand Magic 8 Ball with cube options that include “they could move to FBS”, “they could move to Division 1”, “they were FBS in 1918 so they could be grandfathered in” and “they beat an FBS school 10 years ago so they should replace this other FBS school”)

Shame. I was hoping it was David St. Hubbins.

W/ SEC leaving cbs I guess they could add them to the CBS. MWC have games already on espn sat. night and fs1.

Goes until 2026

Yes, unlike ours, which stretches all the way out to 2032. What's left of it, after ESPN tallies up the deductions for losing Cincy, UCF and Houston.
At least yours is w/ ESPN. I watch the fresno cbs sports gms on 1/6 of my sports mix screen. I rather have sun. ticket, hbo, than pay $7 a month to watch a few fresno gms, could I get it? yes but I won't.

I have no issue with CBSSN. It's channel 246 on my cable lineup, near ESPNu (243) and ESPN News (244). Easy as pie to access it, as I did last night to watch SDSH vs San Jose State.

It is part of the CBS umbrella, after all, a pretty major network.
I get espn, u, news, 2, fs1, fs2. I don't know why NHL and cbs sports are on the 3rd pay tier. when golf, tennis, nba, mlb, nfl are on the 2nd. I have to have directv for sun ticket though. Need to see my Packers and fantasy players every wk.

One of those "two mascot" schools, as they also have A Dead Horse.

Cheerleaders: "You Can't Beat ..."
Student Section: "A Dead Horse!"

ThE only problem with a Wichita State add is that there's really only 1 spot open for a non football school unless you either add another football only member or add 2 all sports members (including football) and kick out Hawaii then you're 12/14.

It’s a top 10 and a top 35 (but non-NFL) market. Both are big state schools with large enrollments so student fees can help increase their athletic budgets.

UNT plays in a brand new venue and the Alamo Dome IMHO still holds some cache.

14 puts Boise back in the West and in their preferred recruiting territory while the Front Range gets access to Texas.

If I’m the MWC, I’m going to go ahead and pull the trigger here. I’d recommend getting into Texas now rather than waiting and potentially having to resort to UTEP (small market, bad football) or Rice (largely ignored).

So these MWC schools willingly take a media pay cut in order to add 2 schools?

One thing is, the smaller your media pay, the smaller the actual dollars lost when you dilute it with 2 schools. That is, 14% of $3m is around $400,000, which wouldn't require the same level of benefit to offset as 14% of $30m.

But of course, even if you let a school know they will be accepted, it's the school that "pulls the trigger" by applying, and if a school is also in discussion with the AAC, it could still wait until it hears from the AAC.

And if they are in discussions with schools in the eastern half of Texas, those same schools have also reached out to the AAC and all or most are in discussion with the AAC as well.

Would that be enough? You don't think they should go all the way down to the Big Sky just to be sure they are a Big 12 lock? 03-lmfao
