RE: Silvefield - Tigers need to listen to each other
I'm glad the team and the players have more strength of character in the face of adversity than a lot of the people in this forum do. Adversity happens to everyone and it is how you respond to it that matters.

After a couple of close losses, many people on this internet message board have become very Negative Nancies. I think it's time for fans to rally and support this team. I don't understand the negativity.

This is a good football team. They need to clean up some mistakes, rbs have to stop fumbling, defense has to get more pressure and create chaos (more sacks and INTs). This is all manageable.

There are a lot of young talented players on this team, and our True Fresh QB is awesome. I think he has the potential to become one of the all-time greats. To me, the future looks very bright for Memphis Tiger football.

I agree but when you give logic , some people dont want to comprehend and expect too much with the young players. COach RS stated he needs to simplize some things which hopefully we see better performances. Arm tackling is something that needs to be addressed

The fundamental flaw here is that this isn't the player's fault, and inferring that it is puts the onus on the wrong people. This is a scheme problem on defense. We are nearly the worst team in all of college football on defense, and that isn't because of blown coverages or arm tackles. McIntyre is a disaster.

It didn’t matter how logical you write

Those who have convinced themselves that Silverfield will not work are immune to it

Of course they will say those who have not made conclusions on Silverfield are happy clappers or immune to it

Schemes, kids, attendance etc.

Presenting at its finest

Coaches had a bad game Saturday. Especially not going ballistic over the failure to review the spot. Kids fumbled and they should not have. Maybe it was a mistake to run X play or have X kid run it. Maybe not. But those game mistakes happen a lot. We want a good effort at Tulsa and a win

Then come out and enjoy Memphis and Navy

I agree Mimi. In the coaches mind and preparations toward a game that every play will work if executed. I have coached high school ball for over 20 years and that is the mindset.
Whatever the outcome this weekend, I will be there for Navy.

Same mistakes made against UTSA were made against Temple. How many games do you lose doing the same things before you change?

Some of y'all weren't avid Tiger football fans in the 70's & 80's...and it shows.

To which mistakes are you referring...

2 of the fumbles by the RBs are about as much of a mistake as missing a field goal. 1st fumble by Brandon was an effort play...Kid was fighting and it cost him. Fumble by Watkins was getting hit on the ball...Watkins is a back who requires agility...You really cant do that and always keep both hands on the ball.

The 2nd fumble by Brandon was a mental mistake he should have taken the yards instead of trying to hit a home run...I will say that.

Explain them away as you will but they are the same mistakes in 2 consecutive games. And if the coach doesn't have other options we're looking at the potential to continue losing.

It is not explaining it away...Fumbling is part of the game...It is going to happen.

Granted some people naturally handle the ball better than others. But that is either natural or trained over time.

Many fumbles happen on effort plays...You can teach the kid to give up in traffic...Which many coaches do preach. I don't necessarily agree with this.

TOs are TOs. Good teams that are well coached don't make many, we have consistently.

Yes

Give that man a cookie

The kids fumbled in back to back games

Therefor, since we have never seen execution mistakes in back to back games by any teams ever, it was a tragic coaching move that bodes disaster soon

Anytime there is less than perfection it is lazy and easy to scream that should not happen

And sooner or later you are right. The same moaned about Fuente. Then Norvell. Now Silverfield.

Ironically, there seemed to be universal acceptance that Silverfield should have made a bigger deal about pushing for a review on the game turning bad spot. Constructive criticisms that seemed reasonable. Seems reasonable to question them on red zone play calling. Or adjusting a defensive scheme late as opponents have been moving the ball well especially late in games

But when you whiny baby sky is falling we suck missisispi deserves a break because it was Alabama after all defensiveness of everything except Memphis then you lose the audience.

But, as we know, you keep YOUR audience. What fun

We are not naive. And trust they are running fumble drills etc. as we speak

Done

I can't find a ton of fault in Brandon's fumble this week. He made a frosh mistake and got big-time stripped for it.
I don't recall Brandon's fumble last week - already blocked it out of my mind.
But the Watkins fumble this week was inexcusable. He didn't get hit, he got bumped when he was - for some reason - trying to change hands with the ball. There was no "agility" involved in it.

This is corny, but they need to just get back to having fun. Coach wants the team to tighten up to reduce mistakes. We really need to loosen up. We are so good at the beginning of games when we play loose.
