And sooner or later you are right. The same moaned about Fuente. Then Norvell. Now Silverfield.

Ironically, there seemed to be universal acceptance that Silverfield should have made a bigger deal about pushing for a review on the game turning bad spot. Constructive criticisms that seemed reasonable. Seems reasonable to question them on red zone play calling. Or adjusting a defensive scheme late as opponents have been moving the ball well especially late in games

But when you whiny baby sky is falling we suck missisispi deserves a break because it was Alabama after all defensiveness of everything except Memphis then you lose the audience.

But, as we know, you keep YOUR audience. What fun

We are not naive. And trust they are running fumble drills etc. as we speak

Done

They are probably the ones that leave at half time

Our defensive scheme is awful. Blame it on the kids if you want, but the scheme is awful.

To which mistakes are you referring...

2 of the fumbles by the RBs are about as much of a mistake as missing a field goal. 1st fumble by Brandon was an effort play...Kid was fighting and it cost him. Fumble by Watkins was getting hit on the ball...Watkins is a back who requires agility...You really cant do that and always keep both hands on the ball.

The 2nd fumble by Brandon was a mental mistake he should have taken the yards instead of trying to hit a home run...I will say that.

I can't find a ton of fault in Brandon's fumble this week. He made a frosh mistake and got big-time stripped for it.
I don't recall Brandon's fumble last week - already blocked it out of my mind.
But the Watkins fumble this week was inexcusable. He didn't get hit, he got bumped when he was - for some reason - trying to change hands with the ball. There was no "agility" involved in it.

Brandon was bouncing outside when he could have gotten a first down by heading north and South because he wanted the home run. While around 3 guys he chose to stiff arm one of them...That was a mental mistake. You aint gonna win that one.

Possibly going in my signature. One of the most clearly stated takes in a long time, here.

Explain them away as you will but they are the same mistakes in 2 consecutive games. And if the coach doesn't have other options we're looking at the potential to continue losing.

Exactly. Full stop.

In our wins AND losses, we have scored enough points to be 5-0. The problem is not on the offensive side of the ball. The problem is "bend-don't-break". The problem is "keep everything in front of you, and hope they make a mistake". The problem is "let's rush three, and give the opposing QB unlimited time to find an open receiver".

Yeah, but part of the problem is the O.
I don't have time to look at it, but our scoring by quarter has to trend badly.

Oh, there's no doubt we've got lots of room to improve on O. But the big elephant in the room it ain't.

As far as I can see in the offense department, our backs need to more quickly recognize open lanes when running off-tackle, our receivers not numbered #4 or #5 need to look the ball into their hands better, and the Oline needs to stay in front of their D counterparts for a longer (than 1 to 1 1/2 seconds) period of time on the pass-protect. But those are all technique. The Defensive SCHEME is atrocious.

After a couple of close losses, many people on this internet message board have become very Negative Nancies. I think it's time for fans to rally and support this team. I don't understand the negativity.

This is a good football team. They need to clean up some mistakes, rbs have to stop fumbling, defense has to get more pressure and create chaos (more sacks and INTs). This is all manageable.

There are a lot of young talented players on this team, and our True Fresh QB is awesome. I think he has the potential to become one of the all-time greats. To me, the future looks very bright for Memphis Tiger football.

The fundamental flaw here is that this isn't the player's fault, and inferring that it is puts the onus on the wrong people. This is a scheme problem on defense. We are nearly the worst team in all of college football on defense, and that isn't because of blown coverages or arm tackles. McIntyre is a disaster.

So what, pray tell, is the scheme that you recommend in this pass happy, up tempo conference? And how is a former National Coach of the Year suddenly an idiot to the point where you know more about the game than he? I can’t wait for your answer.

How about we go back to a 4-3.
You know, what we ran when we didnt have one of the worst defenses in the country. The scheme we used to beat our current DC when he was at another school. Maybe a 4 2 5.

Could it get worse? We obviously don't have the talent and experience to outscore and cover for this defensive disaster.

Is that our job now as fans, figure out a defense for a former National Coach of the year?

That is not really true...The offense has not netted enough points...

While it is a simple story if you don't pay attention to the games...

The offense netted 14 points against UTSA...14 Points aint enough to win.
We scored 28...7 of that by the defense.
The offense gave up 7 points by turning the ball over on the 7.

Mississippi State the offense netted 17 points...17 points aint enough to win
Total 31...Defense Scored 7 and Special teams scored 7

Temple the offense essentially scored 21 points...Iffy.
Defense gave em 3 that the offense turned into 7 by giving the offense the ball on the 35.
Offense gave up 7 points by turning the ball over on the 17 yard line.

But even with that I say you throw out the last 2TDs of this game because the defense had to sell out on 3rd down...All or nothing. If we don't stop 'em we lose so there was no backend help. Temple plays soft and allows us to come back down the field to score knowing not enough time. Take that last TD away and the offense scored 14 points when it mattered.

Neither side of the ball has been stellar.

Some of our fans have been spoiled by our recent success in football. If you could flash back to the last couple of years of Tommy West or to the Larry Porter years, you would be less quick to fly off the handle after a couple of losses. Give it a rest, huh!

Our last couple games have been very frustrating, but I agree. The Porter years were a complete train wreck.

I don’t think anyone needs to be shamed back to the years of feeling unworthy. I prefer this modern day mentality that we belong and deserve nice things. Though I don’t participate in (or even read a lot of) the Monday morning quarterbacking, I don’t begrudge those that do. Fans gonna fan.
