UTSA turn down AAC?
I’ve seen this rumor on Twitter. Rumor is UTSA has turned down AAC! I’m shocked if true. Anyone in the know have any info on this? I can’t really imagining them turning down the AAC unless the MWC is showing interest.

RE: UTSA turn down AAC?
Rumour (British spelling) was they would/could not raise their athletic budget to the "required" amount.
Yes, I know they just built a new athletic center with all the bells and whistles. That is a capital expenditure. We are talking annual budget here.
Pure hearsay-- have no idea if true.

I've heard budget issues, and if Texas-Austin is behind UTSA not being able to move up, that would be crap.
The only thing I can think of to justify not moving is not being able to afford a collective $7.5 million in fees--$5 million to leave CUSA, and $2.5 million to enter the AAC (at least in 2014, but they could have raised those fees by now).
Most schools don't pay those fees all at once, so I have a hard time believing UTSA would be forced to or that they couldn't afford it paid over the course of a handful of years

RE: UTSA turn down AAC?
IF the AAC is that restrictive on annual budget levels they are going to have a somewhat harder time finding candidates.

I was thinking the same, I wonder what they require/expect? Also paying that amount of money into a conference that could be further raided is risky. But I imagine UTSA fans are not gonna be happy at all.

Pretty sure the AAC entrance fee is $10 million. Is it really worth that for the current conference?

No, that's the current exit fee with a proper notice. The entrance fee is typically less, but I don't know if it's still $2.5 million. That's what Wichita paid in 2017.

Exact thought I had. To be fair there's another tweet. Doesn't seem very credible either.

I did a bit more digging and it looks like the rumor started in SB board. Go figure. UTSA turns down AAC and MW to join SB.

Yeah, I don't click on direct links to the Slum Belch forum because almost anything related to CUSA schools is just garbage. There's not a soul over there that knows squat about what is happening with this conference.

That's probably the first time I've gone to their board. Only cuz I was on the trail to find the source. I thought AAC fans were delusional, boy was I in for a surprise.
