RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
We did what we do versus good G5 teams. Got our ass beat. The defense kept Liberty in check for more than enough time for us to get going. Then when the dam broke, everyone started pointing fingers at each other.
Defense will get the blame, when our offense did zero tonight. How Vincent remains employed is beyond me. Our friggin RB coach is employed simply because his dad is Tommy Brigham and belongs to the Athletics foundation.
Coastal, FAU, App State, Louisiana, and now Liberty have all beat our ass, but everything’s fine.
Today’s game was not the impression we needed to make on casual fans.

RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
Crowd: Was not as good as we hoped for, but there 37,000 tickets in people's hands and I know for certain that when the rain rushed in, people changed their minds. Yes, there was always a huge crowd on the concourse. This is not the first time nor the last. But the surprise rain hurt any walkup and many of those with tickets.
Concessions: Don't know, but I was full before I walked in.
Team: How many time times did we have our hands on Willis and could not bring him down. I would think he had 30+ broken tackles on the night, sometimes 3-4 on a single play. Offense just wasn't clicking tonight, and we didn't have a plan B.

We lost and the Malik kid is really really good at breaking and avoiding tackles.

Or we are without 3 key guys in the secondary and are shi*ty at tackling. If Brigham ain’t RB coach anymore, he still don’t belong as recruiting coordinator

RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
I'm going to preface this by saying Bill Clark is the savior of UAB football and one day we should name our home field after him but....its been 5 years and not much has really changed. We play dominant defense until we play a good team. Our offense relies solely on our ability to run the ball and hit big passes. There is no creativity to it. We play like a bad FCS team anytime we play a P5 team. We can't win against the better G5 teams. It feels like we are stuck in place at this point.

a) didn't sell out even after the city buying thousands of tickets
b) the tickets that did sell, about half the people didn't show up. there were two suites I could see with no one in them
c) whoever is in charge of concessions--both operationally and planning--should be fired. no stand had the same beer, so if you wanted trim tab hope you were close to the stand by the entrance. I will excuse the slow operation because it's the first game, and the closed registers because it's hard to get employees right now but at 5PM the anvil grill had no trim tab and none of the 'alabama poutine' which was their signature thing. my gf waited literally the entire second quarter for two beers and a popcorn at a different stand by our seats. absolutely ridiculous
and I'm not even going to comment on the football. that was embarrassing even for UAB
Couple sitting next to me got up and stayed gone almost the entire 2nd quarter. I thought they must have been in the wrong seats and then here they come with drinks and food. A WHOLE QUARTER in the concessions line. Un-*******-believable BJCC. I totally believe there were many many thousands not in their seats all during the game because of the ridiculous wait for concessions. Epic fail by whoever is responsible.

RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
Willis looked like his highlight reel. He didn’t do anything tonight that he hasn’t done to everybody else. He’ll be doing the same thing in the NFL in 12 months.
This was a bad matchup for us with 3 of our secondary people out. Eventually the dam broke. Offense had to help out. Felt like we didn’t try to establish the run enough after the 1st drive. We did drop one and possibly two TD passes.
We play-called our way into a FG on first drive when we should have gotten 7. We had a TD taken off board that changed complexion of the game. We blew a deep drive when QB slid on fourth down on what would have been a first otherwise. We play-called our way out of FG range to end the half and had to try a 50 yarder. Then we dropped the two long passes when we had to score to keep up.
Liberty is good. They are a lot more than just Willis. I said he is the closest thing I have seen to Michael Vick, and that he is.

Malik Willis was just as good, if not better, than advertised. He is a game changer. Best player on the field - by far.
Thousands of people on the concourse and standing everywhere. Looks bad not having them in seats, but they are there.
FAU is not as good as Liberty, but going to be another difficult game next Saturday.

Terrible performance by uab on all levels. Clark is stuck in the mud. I fully expect us to still win the conference but what does that mean

Get off Willis’ dick. We know how good he is. He was kept in check more than long enough for our offense to get going. Offense no showed and Clark is fine with it. Not only would I not want to come play at UAB on offense, but even as good as our defensive staff is, our defense constantly has to play on their heels because the offense don’t reward the defense with points.

Some of y’all are ridiculous! 17k or 22k would mean the stadium was less than half full! I don’t know where y’all were sitting or what you were watching, but I was there and it was way more like 3/4ths than half, at least at the start of the game/1st qtr.
The stadium was great, the atmosphere outside was great, the concessions need work for sure, but it was the first game, I didn’t expect perfection.
On the field, it looked like we were missing some guys on defense, liberty was good and our offense did not help the defense in the 2nd half….not what we wanted, but I have seen worse losses at the Old Grey Lady, at least it was a loss in a brand new stadium!

The defense didn't play that well but the ugly loss is on the offense. The gap between UAB and the good G5 teams is on that side of the ball. Teams like Liberty, Coastal, and App St score points and a lot of them. You aren't going to shut them down so you have to keep the ball and score. Clark should have made big changes on the offensive side of the ball after some subpar seasons there but chose otherwise. He's our guy so we live with his decisions.

You’re right. I expected 30-35k. When you consider the folks on the concourse, protective was pretty close to 65-70% full.

Agreed. Our offense against good G5 teams and all P5 teams is anemic at best.
We will never win in a shootout. Once the other team has 2 TD's over us, we're done.

RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
anyone looking at attendance tonight and thinking that it was bad needs to understand, LSU vs Auburn tonight has empty seats. Florida vs Bama had empty seats. Cincinnati brought a surprising amount of people into Notre Dame today. Some people are still afraid of getting into crowds due to Covid.
We absolutely dropped the ball today, but 37k is still one of our best crowds ever. That is probably tickets sold and not butts in seats, but just keep winning. I've seen way too many games where 5000 people were in Legion Field to drink that poison. I trust in Clark to have us continuously competing for championships. Teams don't fire your OC after winning conference championships. Vincent is here at least until the end of season.
Go Blazers. Go to bed, enjoy church in the morning. See yall next week for FAU.

RE: ***GAME THREAD*** UAB vs Liberty
Folks are crazy about the attendance stuff. Everyone is an expert in their own mind. You can question everyone’s attendance these days. We report attendance as everyone else does. So you can complain or say what your opinion of the attendance was but that is soon forgotten. Official attendance is what matters. And by that, our reported attendance is good for what 4th highest all time? Not terrible given the weather, some with lingering COVID fears, and the opponent (yes for the casual football fan, Liberty is a nobody). Should have been better but I’ll take it.
Where does our attendance stand in comparison to the rest of CUSA and AAC?

It's not just at QB either. It's the OL, the receivers, everything. We need a new offense and an upgrade in talent.
The crowd bothered me way less than the product we put out on the field. Beautiful stadium and nice crowd. Bad bad performance by the team, coaches and players.

The OL definitely had a subpar night. Hopkins held the ball too long a few times also.

Since no reporters will mention it on Monday morning's press conference, we need people to tweet out and get questions answered about the anemic offense on Blazer Sport's Line on Monday evening.
We will never change if people don't pressure him on it.
While we all love the deep threat even if it wins us some games, we can't trust boom or bust deep balls when our run game slouches.
