It was definitely a hard fought game on both sides. Temple did earn the W.
Temple having 0 turnovers vs Memphis 2 turnovers was huge in determining outcome.
Our D has a long way to go. But, they did make some good, hard tackles.

Why would we not have Rodrigues in the backfield with his power and quickness on the goal line instead of (anyone else ?????)

The only reason I can think of is that Watkins was on a bit of a roll. He had carried the ball on three or four straight plays and did well. I guess they thought he was doing what they wanted and to just keep feeding him. IDK.
