The re-seating is going to be a pain in the ass.

During & AFTER construction. A number of long time prime seat holders aren't going to like the planned new seating priorities.

They'll ***** about no $10 tickets, too.

At least they would go to the game for $10. You claim you can't give tickets away for free and you are gonna gripe about cheap tickets? There is a word for what you are.

Not exactly griping about cheap tickets, just griping that certain people don't go to the games UNLESS their are $10 or $9.01 tickets.
When I say we can't give the tickets away, it's not necessarily an indication of anything in particular, just people not wanting to go to the games.
There's an attendance problem at Memphis that's based on a lot of really interesting factors. At the end of the day, that's all that comment was about. For whatever reason, you've chosen to read too much into it. But please tell me, what word are you thinking of for what I am?

The stadium size limits the price the university can charge for tickets; and the fan base has become accustomed to $5-$10 tickets. Such is the price of playing in a rented facility built for the needs of the SHC & the Liberty Bowl & not for the needs of the university.

In reality, all but around 10,000 seats are $10 or less.

no we won't.

You know, we can get some feedback on attendance when the AAC defectors play their first Big XII season. Let's see what happens to their attendance. We'll need a thread just for that where people can call each other names too!

2021 Miss St: 43k
2019 Ole Miss: 44k
2017 UCLA: 46k

Don't think what happened 25+ yrs ago is particularly relevant today. I'd say games within the last 3-5 yrs are most relevant or since joining the AAC. But in any era our P5 home games are clearly better attended than other OOC games. Also when our team is contending for titles our attendance is generally better for conference games compared to off years.

what exactly are you wanting that would fit your motive? 3-5 years ago was basically the high point of Memphis football and Tennessee footballl sucked ( which IMO helped with attendance) .
To your last point about any era football the attendance was higher with P5-( once again subtract ole miss and UT games) it is pretty even.

Motive? No motive, just discussion, right? I simply said what happened 25 yrs ago isn't particularky relevant today - different program. Prior to Fuentes for a number of years there was less interest in program success. With program success, attendance increased. Since Norvell, attendance is slowly decreasing, along with lower season ticket sales & attendance & apparently lower expectations. No doubt the Memphis program has had it's good years since as far back as the 50s-60s. But after Pancost, it tended down except for a few brief periods. And with success better attendance & with loses lower attendance. But in all these periods it seems attendance is best playing strong OOC games & winning in-conference.

And if there's a point to my opinion, it's that we need to maintain a strong OOC schedule & also contend for titles in-conference. And attendance can't be objectively judged apart from program success/failure.

They are once-a-year events. They are also determining the size of the renovated stadium.

Throw out Tennessee and Ole miss. We have very few games over 40k with P5
Surprisingly Mississippi st. Games are low attendance.
If anyone has time, the attendance for the Southern Heritage Classic and Liberty Bowl games would be nice to see as well.

Without those two games, the stadium would likely be reduced to 35-40k… a number more suitable for the UofM & a number that would allow the university the opportunity to make more money off of ticket sales.

100% fact. Having said that, I will not be surprised if capacity somehow ends up below 50,000. I hope so.

Me too…

The sports world seems to be going for reduced capacity with increased fan experience. We would benefit with fewer seats.

So? What difference does it make? You think 20k in a 40K stadium looks better than 30K in a 55? So?

I always thought it sounded like we were going to land at about 48,000 seats.

That's plenty for whoever we are playing, sports attendance has just declined over the years with streaming and HDTV
