That guy has been the only media figure I've seen mention anything about Murray State to MVC and it's been crickets since.

When Matt Brown starts to tweet something I'll believe there's significant movement.

So, I'm not fired yet? 04-cheers

Maybe something like paid administrative leave. Lol

Now that was one great basketball conference! Louisville, Memphis, Marquette, Cincinnati etc….plus Drake made it to 2 final 4’s and damn near beat UCLA and won the whole thing!

Marquette was never a member of the Valley. But, yes, UL, UC and UM were aligned in the MVC from 1968-70 — and I vaguely recall that. One of the most notable elements of conference realignment is the separation of those three schools.

My bad. Was it St Louis? I’m missing a few schools I know....

Yes, SLU was in the Valley up until 1974.

No word yet. With the OVC down to 5 FB, it's conceivable Murray FB stays there for a year or two just to help the OVC with the autobid. OVC needs Murray FB if it can't both woo WIU and keep TSU.

In the event of a Murray State invite to the MVC, I could see their FB sticking around with the OVC, at least for a little while. The OVC certainly wouldn't be in a position to boot their FB out of spite. I wonder if any of the delay in announcing Murray to the MVC (if indeed they are desired) has to do with their FB being not especially desirable for the MVFC. I have heard -- probably on this board -- that the Summit schools in the MVFC "owe" the MVC schools there for bringing North Dakota FB aboard, but I don't know how much truth there is to that.

Might get some clarity on the topic if the powers that be inside the MVC were asked "Do you want a 20-game conference basketball schedule? Is that the plan?"

Yeah, you can go 20 with 12 teams, but then it's unbalanced. A double-round robin with 11 teams works great from a travel-cost certainty standpoint.

With 20 games the norm you really don't need a 12th

So, Summit League teams backing out on their agreement?

Not sure if in writing, MVC people would have to comment, but at least a firm understanding that if the MVC added a program with football, they would get into the MVFC as well.

We were under the impression that if we let in North Dakota, the summit schools would help us out. Who knows though. Perhaps with Murray giving the MVC 6 football schools, the summit teams are worried (youngstown would join MVC as an affiliate for obvious reasons) that WIU would leave and they d be 4 nomads could be a lot of reasons. Also, this may sound a bit out there right now, but the valley could be waiting on this AAC stuff to play out, and I am not specifically talking about Wichita, more just see where everything is and where the chips may lay (MoSt leaving, Wichita coming back, etc)

RE: Murray St to Missouri Valley - DavidSt, Frank the Tank Fired As Realignmentologists
I don't think Murray State wants to leave football in the OVC. And the attitude of the OVC is more along the lines of boot the traitors than reconciliation. I think they'll just work harder on bringing in WIU -- the schedule agreement with the SLC means every school will have 8 "conference" games to fill their schedule (agreement will add one home game for everyone).

The MVFC turned down RMU when they entered the Horizon and they had to join the Big South instead. UND had to wait two years after joining the Summit to play in the MVFC. I could see Murray State falling under either of those scenarios, a delayed MVFC entry or outright denial and having to look at the Big South instead. And the Big South may very well take them, as they are losing Kennesaw State and North Alabama next year, dropping to 7 schools. That might actually work reasonably well as Murray can probably play a mix of local MVC, ASUN and OVC schools as OOC opponents.

We shall see. The Big South may be the destination for Murray State football.

Whether it's announced right away or not, If the delay in Murray State's admittance is due to football, I gotta think that it has something to do with WIU gettin into the OVC.
There would be no love lost by the Summit schools, it would be best for WIU, best for the Summit, and football would be a wash, at worst. As a UND fan I never read anything about the Dakotas owing the MVC any favors for UND's admittance into the MVFC. Couldn't see NDSU doing UND any favors for something like that..
