It doesn't matter until we start winning games, but has a coach ever said all the right things quite like Miller? He seems so invested in UC. I get fired up listening to him.

I really do try to tone it down because he hasn't coached a game here yet, but damn, so far Wes is winning in every way off the court. I love the familial vibe he cultivates in the program. Tapping into our illustrious history and involving past players is a no-brainer, and you can tell Wes both understands that and relishes it.

I'm also pretty bullish on the current roster. No, we probably don't have a conference POTY type of guy on the team, and we are lacking in guys who can create offense. But we've got some battle-tested veterans who have played in big-time conferences (DDJ, Ado, Newman, Ody), some really solid returning guys like MAW and Davenport, and a solid nucleus of underclassman with more help on the way from what looks to be a strong 2022 class. As long as Wes keeps the ship on its current course, he's going to win a lot of games here.

on paper we've got a frontcourt that won't let houston get offensive rebounds. i go to sleep at night hearing dan hoard say, "and the offensive rebound goes to, no surprise, houston." it was multiple times those games that houston got like eleven rebounds in a row. unprecedented. i'm hoping one of the greensboro transplants pans out. i could see one or two transfer at years end. then we'll get the frontcourt person i was talking about

I'm choosing to believe that this team will be like the 1992 team that basically had a complete roster overhaul and came together to be great.

Like 1992 with 2 more tournament wins.

Just like Luke after he was hired. Everything he says/does is A+. Obviously the biggest part is translating it to results which Luke has far surpassed any reasonable expectations; hopefully Wes does similar. I'm all in on Wes.

I really enjoy the part where he talks about practicing early Saturday to go the ND game. I love it when they get invested/connected to the overall community.

Between Luke/Wes the next 5 years could be unprecedented for sustained success in the two high profile sports at the same time. It seems like it's usually one or the other here.

I remember when John Brannen came in everyone was raving about his offensive mindset and sets in practice. Dan Hoard and many former players watched practice and gushed about how much better their former teams would have been if they had a disciplined pro-style approach on offense like Brannen was installing.

I'm excited about Wes as the new coach but as a Cincinnati sports fan I've been beaten down so many times that I'm cautious to get too excited.

I think it's cool that he said "a lot of the players are driving up" to the Notre Dame football game. The players are all-in on UC.

If I recall, not everyone was exactly raving about him when he was hired It’s the default for people around the program - especially media guys tied to the program - to gush about a new hire. Fans generally eat that stuff up because they are desperate to believe.

Wes will be a good one once he has time to set up his own roster. He’s already a massive improvement in terms of personality fit and the positive energy he brings.

RE: 2021/22 Bearcats Basketball Season Thread
The issue with Brannen wasn't so much the system he wanted to run but how he ran his program - especially behind the scenes. You want players to go through a wall for you and not run them off or not to trust/respect you. Wes has aced everything off the court to this point, and now he'll be given the benefit of the doubt to get it done on the court. The enthusiasm now is because we can finally put the past regime and negativity in the rearview mirror and get back to building a program worthy of Bearcats basketball.

The problem is that we never saw that on the court.

All we saw on the court was lazy, soft turnover machines on offense and church league defense.

From the outset I was not a fan of the Brannen hiring. He lacked the resume and the interpersonal savvy for a school like UC. Just hearing him speak in public was a red flag as to how he could or couldn’t work with other people.

You are dead on correct about some/most of the media gushing over every hire and the fans who want to believe eating it with a spoon.

I am more positive about Miller, but as Mr. Nacho pointed out, the jury still has at least a small bit of doubt until presented with concrete evidence.
