I've seen us mentioned in other places as well. But, writers and message board posters won't be making the decision.

Last graph of the story.
Other teased candidates from those outside the league include Texas-Arlington, Milwaukee, Little Rock, Northern Kentucky, Denver and others.

Although no doubt that ADs will play a big role in expansion talks, it is interesting to note from the article that decisions are going to be at the Presidential/Chancellor level.

Whatever happens I would like LR and UTA to remain in the same conference. Having another basketball only member in the Sun Belt would be nice. Having them in the Valley would mean having another rival close by. Going to the Summit, ASUN, Ohio Valley, etc. would be made more palatable if UTA joined us.
Still not sure about being the only non-football in the Belt, both from our perspective and that of the league.

Folks on the Belt board seem pretty sure the Belt can get both USM and Marshall from CUSA. I'm sure folks on the CUSA board think that is nonsense. Those 2 teams would be great adds, and if it stops there, I think the league would be fine with 12 football schools and 14 schools for the other sports. Much depends on what the AAC does. The strong rumor now is that Colorado State and Air Force will leave the Mountain West to go the AAC. Why they would do that, I have no idea, especially since most expect Memphis to eventually go to the Big 12. The AAC seems completely watered down to me. UAB looks headed for the AAC which I guess makes some sense for them. The MWC may fill with a couple of west Texas schools from CUSA. Once the dominoes start to fall, we'll see what the Belt does. The Belt does seem in a lot stronger position, than 10 years ago when CUSA poached several teams. Not sure any Belt teams would leave for CUSA now.

I definitely agree with your last statement that the the Belt is in a much stronger position than it was ten years ago. The pecking order among non-power 5 football conferences has become much less distinct. Other than sweating what might happen to Little Rock, this should be fascinating to watch!

USM seems to be a matter of regaining some of the fire they lost. They have very good relationships with the entire SBC West, and don't have issues with the East. Regaining a sense of rivalries might spark their football program
