RE: Tiger Basketball Practice
there was a bates to duren dunk, probably see that a lot

bates handles the ball pretty good, hit some threes

sam got up and down the court pretty good, he has thick legs, does not look the 300 lbs,
but like i said, his body is shaped different from other 6' 10" guys

camden has a nice 3 point shot, might be close to harris

did not notice josh or earl

nolley was on the second team

the practices probably will be more difficult than the games

Let Ja and the former Tigers scrimmage with youngsters for 5 minutes. That should tell us something.

RE: Tiger Basketball Practice
Jalen Duren - He is the real deal. Can run the floor, rebound and play defense. He needs to develop a little bit more in the offensive end, but can score around the basket. Needs mid-range game.

Emoni Bates - can shoot from really deep, still is a little bit light, needs to bulk up a little bit. He can handle the ball well and is learning the offence. Passes well and is willing to share the ball.

Johnathan Lawson - looks stronger than I thought, played more of the off guard position. He is very athletic and shoots better than I thought.

John Camden - is more polished than I thought he would be. Can really shoot well and is consistent. Has a really pretty shot. Quicker and more athletic than I thought.

Josh Minott - is listed at 6-8, he is taller than Malcolm so he looks closer to 6-10. He is smooth and is what I call a basketball player, that is not relying solely on his athletic ability.

Sam Onu - is a huge human being, clearly the largest and tallest person on the team. Had a couple of good moves, one cut to the basket for a score that surprised me. Can move better than I thought. Needs to develop his offense more. You can tell he relied on being taller than everyone in high school, tried to score a couple of times without jumping and Jalen put an end to that.

RE: Tiger Basketball Practice
Timberlake and Lomax did not participate today.

Landers looked solid, you can tell he is not as athletic as the many of then new comers, but he has basketball skills.

Chandler - played within himself and held his own. Not as tall as I thought he was.

Lester - being Lester, shooting the open three, playing hard nose defense and looked like a leader. Ran the offense a little bit - taking pressure off of Bates.

Deandre - still a very calming force on the floor. Ran the offence a little bit - taking the pressure off of Bates.

Tyler Harris - good to see him back. Dude can still stroke the three ball. Did a decent job of running the team and could see more time than we thought. He is probably still the quickest man on the team.

Malcolm - banged with the other bigs, matched up against Jalen a lot. He is not as quick as Jalen, but is as strong. Rebounded well. Looked a little gassed out there and has to get his stamina up.

Jayden - almost didn't recognize him, his hair was really short. He looked stronger and quicker than last year and less hesitant. Being more assertive makes you a better player.

RE: Tiger Basketball Practice
Finally, as a team, they looked more cohesive than you would think with all of the new people. But talent helps a lot there. There will not be a traditional point guard per se, but Bates will have the ball in his hands a lot.

This team ought to be able to rebound and run, and I mean really run. They will go 12 deep and will need to figure out how to split the time. The practiced was more controlled and didn't show any real details of the defense, like no full court press. I suspect we will see that in real games and full scrimmages. We will wear other teams down. Playing time will depend on who is clicking, playing good defense, not turning the ball over, rebounding and of course foul trouble. Unlike other years, if one of our stars gets early fouls, there is a plug and play alternative that is just as good as the person that would go out.

Good grief. He signed a magazine for me. I’ve met him numerous times. He’s a good dude. Nicer than most in the NBA.

I think he is close on offense...He gets himself in good situations to score baskets...He just misses them

Defensively I am not sure how much he can improve
