was absolutely wondering, where is this UTSA talk coming from out of the blue? Makes sense Aresco emphasizing several times "only the schools that wants to be here"

Your President wanted him and he's your's to keep.

It's a horrible thing for GSU considering the AAC will still be the best positioned G5 after this is done. Sorry guys, there's more at stake here than just football. If I was a donor i'd be wanting to know why we didn't even attempt it.

With the teams the AAC is targeting this is probably a blessing for Ga St.

If GA State doesn't have the cash to make the move I say everyone else in the SB should chip in and help 'em out.

Well yeah, even extended him before retiring in July...

RE: Matt Brown on Ga State/AAC
I'm confused. Did Ga St fans really expect to receive an AAC invite?

Do you really think your AD turned down an AAC invite? C'mon guys. You all are getting upset at your AD over Matt Brown's personal opinion? Seems a little out there from the outside looking in. It'd be different if he said the AAC offered and Ga St turned it down.

Yure mot getting it. Charlie really doesnt want to work. This happened at the perfect time. Our president of 12 years retired in July. The new president took office in August just as all of this started to pop off. Aresco said they are only dealing with schools that approach the AAC. Matt Brown's tweet wording is very specific. Like I said, it tracks with what some of us have heard in the last week. It alsmot reads as if Charlie wrote. He had no intention of approaching the AAC. What was he going to do? Speak as to assurances the AAC certainly would have? Raise money? Naw, better to keep coasting to retirement. I kind of figured he would pull something like this with a president in office only a month. I think what shocks me is that the GSU Foundation Board went along with it. That's why some of us are pissed. Not because we are "stuck" in the SBC, but because someone did what was best for him rather than what is best for the university. But as has been said he is ALL ours to keep til retirement or until that buyout on that extention drops a bit.

RE: Matt Brown on Ga State/AAC
Aresco can say he wouldn't approach schools, but that's a lie. You don't think he approached Boise and SDSU again? Even Matt Brown reports that Boise and SDSU were courted and declined. How were they courted if Aresco didn't reach out?

Are you asking for an explanation or do you want yoour version you can live with?

Like I said I started hearing stuff about 4 to 6 days ago and I treied to to ignore it because it would mean a paradigm shift on the leadership sales pitch for 20 years. But there you have it.

sounds to me like Ga State approached the AAC- they were told they're not ready yet.

ADCC puts out a public statement thats designed to piss no one off, pisses off the 30 ga state fans that read ben moore and thought they were the #1 AAC choice.

Here we are.

Yep.. they've been pushing for such an event for years now.

Long ago, they originally saw themselves as the next USF, back when they were winning big. Now that USF is terrible and UCF is in the Big 12, they've quietly switched the narrative. "Hey.. UCF did it.. why not us?".

I feel for Cobb in this instance... its obvious he's got a few mouth pieces that have been selling this delusion for several years now. Imagine pressuring an AD to change conferences so you can *checks notes* play other R1s. In reality, this to fulfill a sense of elitism by a fringe group and it does nothing for Athletics in the slightest. SBC is now positioning itself to be the best G5 in the country, so Cobb is making the right decision to no try and sacrifice athletics for the sake of academic comradery.

I also feel for those that took what Ben Moore and Co have been selling for years as gospel and now they see all this prognostication has lead them down a road of complete embarrassment.

The AAC was never going to happen for GAST and it is playing just like we've been telling them for years on this board. Luck can only take you so far in life.

It's obvious that's what happened, but I was going to say that seeing as how I'm a guest over here on this board.

Surprised that the Ga St fans can't see this.

UCF and the others have been playing football for decades now. The Ga St fans who think they are the next UCF MIGHT be correct, but even if they are, it won't be for another 15-20 years.

As I said earlier, with the teams the AAC is targeting, this will be a blessing in disguise for Ga St. The AAC will be just another G5 now, and in some ways even worse considering how spread out they are going to be.

It’s almost like some people have never watched a coaching search and have only sought jobs where you either hear nothing of months later get a form letter saying you weren’t selected.

Most likely Georgia State drew enough interest to not be dismissed out of hand but now knows they aren’t in the last group

If Georgia State thought that they were going to get an AAC invite with a football team that's only been around for a decade...five of which were losing seasons (three of which they couldn't even get to .5) in a city which is already dominated by an SEC and ACC team and which could never cut into their market share unless they were actually playing one of those teams, is more delusional than what the UNCC peeps thought of their program.

Win a conference championship or two first, sell out Center Parc Credit Union Stadium a few times. Yeah you've got basketball but football drives the train at the moment.

I feel bad for Georgia State. The only people I have seen that think GSU is a good fit for the AAC are GSU people.

All is not lost, App State is coming to see you this weekend, and will help get those attendance numbers up.

Hey, by the way, now may be a good time to raise concession prices - make some big money for your university. :)

So for all these complaints about Cobb, we do know that a school's AD doesn't do anything without the approval of the President right?
