Curious to get thoughts as to OVC attempting to recoop itself by getting Morehead State back in the league for football.

I am aware of the fact the Eagles don't necessarily move the "wow" needle, and if they left for the Pioneer League they must be strapped for cash, but considering their history with the conference and they're still members in other sports (not to mention the INSANE travel they do from California to Florida and New York) I would think it'd be a beneficial move for both parties involved.

They are FLAT broke.

Why isn't Phil Simms funding the program?

If Morehead State can figure out a way to fund scholarships they can play at Ball State every season

Morehead is in a bad location for today's conference atmosphere. Half way between Lexington and Huntington.

Athletics budget is $9m.
Football is a wash at a bit over $1M in revenue and expenses.

I think they might be a fit in the SoCon.

Morehead needs someone to step up for them the way Coach Harbaugh and his sons did for Western.Without Coach Harbaugh getting his sons involved, WKU’s program wouldn’t be where it is today.

They pay the High School coaches more here. Admittedly it's the Bay Area in California, but still. It was rumored my son's HS coach was paid twice that.

My high school football coach told us he made less than 50 cents an hour as the football coach. He also drew a salary as a gym teacher, but that pays peanuts at a Catholic school in Ohio.


Private schools mean different things in different regions. When I lived in San Diego, the cheapest Catholic high school in the whole region charged $32,000 tuition. I moved to central Illinois a couple years ago, and my local Catholic high school here charges $6,200 (the sticker price is $8200 but the local parishes pick up $2000 of the bill for parishioners).

I see that their head basketball coach's salary is $160,000.

If push comes to shove and the OVC needs a 6th football team, couldn't Morehead just move their affiliation to the OVC and be that 6th school?

Even though they are a non scholarship program, they could on paper be OVC #6.

In practice that would allow them to play 5 OVC games, 5 Pioneer non conference games, and 1 FCS buy game (like they did @JMU this year) or 5 OVC games and 6 Pioneer non conference games.
