Move the Hawks to Boston or Chicago
It's crystal clear that the city of Atlanta could care a less about the Hawks, while northerners are absolutely rabid about their basketball!!! So give Boston or Chicago a second team. As bonkers as the Northeast and the Midwest are about basketball, either city should be able to support a second team easily!!!

I don't know where you got that idea from. The city is definitely down with Trae Young. The issue, much like the Thrashers is location. No one wants to be in downtown Atlanta at night. Build an arena in Buckhead and the dynamics change.

If the Hawks move, send them back to Saint Louis, which was their last stop prior to Atlanta.
It's probably going to be a question of can Gwinnett build a NBA-caliber arena when their current one in Gwinnett is long in the tooth.

Are you sure?? The waiting list for Celtics tickets has to be pretty long!! Plus, the collegiate basketball teams in the area are supported very well also. UMass basketball, Holy Cross basketball, Harvard basketball, as well as Rhode Island basketball and Providence College basketball just across the state line in Rhode Island. That's where I got the idea. Isn't Providence pretty much a suburb of Boston anyway???

RE: Move the Hawks to Boston or Chicago
Every league is going to let existing owners veto a team moving into their own market. And, a prime location that doesn't already have a team is a potential expansion site with a billion-dollar expansion fee to be divided among existing team owners.
I don't think the Hawks would be on a most-likely-to-move list anyway. The T-Wolves would be at the top of that list, and the scuttlebutt on them has consistently been that the NBA wouldn't let them move to Seattle because the league wants an expansion fee from Seattle (and possibly Las Vegas) whenever they get around to adding two more teams. For existing markets, the previous Kings owners, before they sold the club, threatened to move the team to Anaheim, but that had no chance. The league would have let the Lakers and Clippers block that.

I have NO CLUE why you think the Celtics have a waitlist for tickets?! Those schools are NOT major fan bases! I HAVE to assume you not from around here!

I think having another basketball team in that market is a bad idea because it adds more competition for eyeballs in the area, competing with the Pats, Bruins and Red Sox on top of the Celtics. There's only so much money to go around in any sports market. Boston is a larger DMA but not the same DMA it was 20-30 years ago. If I was to wave a magic wand at a city that could host a NBA team it's a small market city without a hockey team in Cincinnati.
However, I did assume there'd be an extending waiting list for the Celtics. They have a very rich basketball history much like my Steelers do in football. And playing in a much smaller arena than Heinz Field increases that demand over the limited supply. Are there semi season packages with the 82 game schedule that addresses this factor?

AFAIK baseball is the only sport that does “selected teams” packages for tix. The NHL MIGHT do an “Original Six” package, but I’m not into hockey enough to know.
