MLB maybe onto something
Expos in a division with NY, Boston and Toronto maybe a win win win for everybody (but Tampa)

The Rays wouldn't have to move if Sternberg would be allowed to get a new stadium closer to where the fans are. The Trop is in a bad spot for anyone, and it's falling apart too!!

Nashville is more likely than Montreal.

AL East - Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Blue Jays, Guardians
AL Central - Royals, Twins, White Sox, Tigers, Nashville
AL West - Mariners, Athletics, Angels, Rangers, Astros

Why would you switch Cleveland and the Rays though? I think Cleveland aligns with the Central teams pretty strongly.

Nashville is further west than Detroit. Admittedly, it is a toss up as to whether they'd be moved, given they have no natural geographic rival in the AL.

The AL would probably be better off by just being two divisions, as all four of Detroit, Cleveland, Nashville, and Chicago could then be in the same division. Of course, this means when MLB expands to 32 teams, they would give us 4 divisions in each league instead.

I'm surprised they are staying in St. Pete. I get that is where the money for this boondoggle is, but the location perpetuate the Ray's attendance issues.

Yeah, I figured they would relocate to Tampa proper if they got a new stadium in that area.

They're historically a midwest, rust belt/industrial city.

With regard to MLB divisons, the Tigers have been in the AL East/Central Since 1969

Why are the Rays building another dome, they have some of the best weather anywhere in Tampa Bay? That's one of the least appealing things to potential fans in their current situation, why repeat that mistake?

If 32, then perhaps Montreal and Salt Lake. I’d prefer Charlotte and Nashville but I’m seeing more buzz around the former two cities. Assuming no AL/NL switches:

AL

East: Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays

West: Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Las Vegas Athletics, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Utah Hornets

NL

East: Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals

West: Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals

Yup.

The lack of appeal w domes isn't the problem, it's the way it looks outside that pushes so many away.

Once fans get inside, it's actually pretty nice, as many who have visited have come to find.

Mass transit problems for the Tampa folks to get to downtown St. Pete, plus soaring cost of living leading to born-and-raised Rays fans having to move (like myself), plus the continued influx of Boston/NY/Chicago fans just add up to some of the attendance issues.

This year thankfully saw a much better regular season attendance, but between an assumption of making the ALDS plus folks having to make the decision between sacrificing vacation time or making any of the afternoon games led to the playoff attendance issues. I firmly believe that if people hadn't assumed we'd make the ALDS, there'd have been more fans, & if the MLB could have given us even one night game, this also wouldn't have been as big of an issue. A sadly perfect storm.
