If she is gone, that will be the second year in a row coach has lost most (if not all) of the freshmen class. What’s up with that??

Probably because she doesn’t play freshmen. And near the end of the season when there were injuries, those who had to step in didn’t have any game experience under their belt.

Coaches are going to have to change that mindset now that we have no incentive for players not to transfer. We may have to live with freshmen mistakes and figure out how to get them some minutes, even if there are better options sometimes, just to make sure we have players in the pipeline for the future. Unless we simply recruit from the portal almost exclusively. It’s very frustrating as a fan to see the new players come in, try to learn about them, get excited for their future potential, and then they don’t play much and transfer out as if they were never here.

Why would you do that? You can play a freshman for 20 minutes, live with their mistakes, and then they will still transfer. Coaches are less willing to play freshman.

You assume reasons for leaving are rational

Fair point. I was basing that idea based on the assumption they are leaving in large part due to lack of playing time. If its other reasons (NIL money, playing style, coaching style etc) then it wouldn't make any difference. I can understand why coaches are recruiting more from the portal these days. The HS route is just too risky unless you're in the running for one and done players. Its a shame, for HS players who previously may have been given a shot due to potential, and fans who enjoy watching the player develop from bumbling freshman to all star senior.

HS players need to be recruited by someone, or eventually there will be no players going into the portal. It is a confusing new (un)reality that will soon hopefully settle down to a sense of normalcy.

Ashanti Barnes-Williams is no longer with the team which is too bad because she was from Lake Taylor. I don’t know why and she is not listed on WBBBLOG as being in the transfer portal. Nevertheless, that diminishes the returning and available height we have. The returning center from Princess Ann was doing a nice job on the final third of last season and I look for her to have a nice year. The available minutes are wide open and so are the team achievements. I doubt they will be ranked high in the pre-season

Program clearly has issues with either targeting the right talent or retaining players. They all seemingly come in with the right pedigree. But flipping the roster every year is far from ideal.

We knew it was coming but seems Coach Brittany Young looked back to her old stomping grounds and snatched a couple of our most productive players from the Portal - Ajah Wayne and Mariah Adams, wearing their familiar jersey numbers at ODU, 4 and 1 respectively, in the video...

I have mixed feelings about this because I think Mariah Adam’s had a terrible offensive year last year and Aja Wayne won’t be ready until January. I think one of the issues about continuity is being able to make room room for youth so I don’t bemoan the loss of Wayne, Howard and Adams. I do bemoan the incredible turnover in the last two draft classes. I am happy that Young , Jackson remain and Dickens arrives. I really don’t know about the quality of the others who remained like Washington because I do not believe they played enough. Can others shed light. I look at the transfer portal and don’t know why Plath Gabriel, a three star recruit out High School, 6’5” center out of UConn still does not have destination.

I think we should try to get Piath Gabriel. Does anyone have ties to the coaches on campus.

Now that Indiana has let Marianne Stanley go, perhaps she'd be interested in a second go around at ODU!
