RE: ODU v Buffalo
Since the end of the game Saturday I have been thinking in the back of my mind about whether Buffalo had the option to enforce the penalty on the kickoff but decided not to. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the rules can clarify that. Obviously it worked out for them whether it was an option or not. But if they did have the option I am curious why they chose the extra point. It is easily makeable from that distance but their is added pressure. If they move the kickoff back 15 yards they get great field position with time for a couple of plays to get in FG range. But they are not a proficient passing team and they had not been moving the ball at all so maybe they thought the XP was their best option. Or they didn’t have the option, IDK.

I think the only way they could have chosen is if the infraction happened on the extra point attempt. Since it happened on the previous play, I don’t think they had the option to carry it over to the kickoff. But I’m fuzzy on this.

RE: ODU v Buffalo
My interpretation of this is that Buffalo had the option to take the penalthy on the kickoff or extra point. This is the choice they have when a foul occurs after a touchdown but before the ball is ready for play or if there was a live ball foul that is treated as a dead ball foul.
That is actually a great question. I think there was 16 or 19 seconds left. If they take it on the kickoff, we squib it down to about the 20 and at best they have 2 plays left. Maybe 3 if super quick.
With the way their offense was playing, I think they made the right call. Unless they have a monster FG kicker that can boom it from 60
