Marshall's offense doesn't need a lot of time to score. We only had 21 minutes of possession against Navy and scored 49 points.

Now realize I understand that's Navy's defense, but you get the point. We play very uptempo and don't need a lot of time..

Also, no disrespect to App, but FAU has a very good defense as well.

You can tell yourself whatever you need to. Doesn’t change the fact that Apps defense is likely the best in the G5. It is elite and you will see that soon enough.

I mean come on dude. You're still giving up 18 points a game.

Tale of the tape.

Over/Under 58.5
Marshall +7

So Vegas thinks this game will finish something like 31-24 App.

Marshall O: 44 pts per game
App State. O: 33 pts per game

Marshall D: 20 pts per game
App State D: 18 pts per game

Seems like the Marshall posters are being reasonably humble, and the App posters are being unreasonably overconfident.

I'm still curious, what makes this defense of App so elite? I am not a troll I would like to have a discussion.

Marshall fans are humble?

Where did App fans say we could score 50?

Did you watch the ECU or Miami game, if not go do that as a starter.

Wow, sometimes voice texting can be the worst. My bad, sometimes I will speak out what I want to say, then I read it and I'm like how the heck did the voice text pick that up?

Essentially Marshall fans think their offense will win them the game, an App fans believe their defense will hold serve.

Should be a great matchup then!

Turnovers will be the key, I think if we can figure out a way to play smart, we will be competitive and should win. If App can take advantage of the holes we will inevitably give you with our over aggressive nature on defense, you will certainly win.

We have averaged 44 points a game, saying we could score 50 might be a stretch, but saying we will get blanked out is equally a stretch.

If the turnover battle is even App wins. I firmly believe we have more talent across the board and deeper.

Balanced offense, better defense, and playing at home.

You are not deeper and you don't have the talent advantage. But you do have the home field advantage.

No App fan has called for shutout though, that’s the difference in this discussion.

The ECU game is deceptive. Marshall held a 17 point lead with 7 minutes remaining. Had it not been a failed 4th and 2 on our 30 yard line, where most teams would have elected for a field goal, the ECU spark may have never occurred.

The Marshall D better step up. It should be a fun, hostile environment.

I don't think we win, but I KNOW we will not lose by 20+...

I was being facetious. I don't know what's going to happen. Either team could lose by 20 in this one and I wouldn't be surprised.

I saw some poster on Marshall's board say "App wouldn't beat the ECU we played last night" and I thought that was a bad take. App went on a 33-3 run on ECU and was threatening to make it 40-3 with 9 minutes left in the 4th. That's pretty decisive.

Being as impartial as possible, I don't know how you could say that. Last year's game was an equal measure of yards, and a 10-point Marshall win.

This year about the only difference is our ECU game. But as I've said in the past, we were on the cusp of going up 45 to 17 if it were not for an error on 4th and two, or a fumble at the goal line.

It was that big of a swing, that one play could have ended whatever run ECU ended up grabbing. And kudos to them, they performed admirably on the road.

It's not a bad take to compare ECU from week one to ECU on week three. They showed a sign of life that I was not expecting, caught everybody off guard. So they definitely earn that win, and are making big strides.

I don't know what will happen on Thursday either, just putting the tail of the tape together shows it should be pretty equal match all things considered. I definitely don't see a talent advantage for either program.

All of the following are true:

1) App's offense will be MUCH better than last year.
2) App's defense will be better than the one you saw last year and held you to 17. The defense will be the best one you see all year.
3) App will not blank marshall
4) Marshall will not score 50
5) App is more talented.

All right I got to get to work now, the reason I think we will lose is because we are undisciplined and young, turnover prone. But we will put up points for sure.

You can tell yourself whatever you need to. Doesn’t change the fact that Apps defense is likely the best in the G5. It is elite and you will see that soon enough.

App played ECU, Miami, and Elon. Marshall has played Navy, NCCU, and ECU.

FAU has played Georgia Southern, Florida, and Fordham.

I've been impressed by App's defense as per usual. I can imagine that Marshall will quick slant App to death like Elon did but it's hard to do for a full four quarters and lead to points.

If App can stop the run better than ECU did, I think App wins. The biggest thing for this game is that Marshall's big four from a year ago are gone. Those guys were the drivers in performance, along with Tony Peterson being terrible, from last season.

They have Mike Houston who is sick of losing. They have Ahlers who is sick of losing and probably tired of the crap play calling that they have had. What changed the game? Ahlers running the ball. When he finally decided to start running, their offense got going. They'd be better off running what they did at the Citadel with him than a traditional spread air raid type attack with a power running game.

One thing Marshall fans aren't accounting for in this game in how the loss of your four all-stars from last season will impact this game. Overall, I think there was too much turnover on both sides to make a prediction based on what happened last season. New coaches, Marshall's NFL bound quartet is gone, App lost a corner to the NFL, we have a BETTER offensive coordinator, new offensive line guys, and four guys who can really run the ball instead of just two.

We also have Corey Sutton back. Between Chase Brice, Sutton, and Ponce I have reason to be optimistic about that side of the ball.
