Getting bent over by Maryland. Maybe Kent State football hasn’t changed that much after all.

Finishing drives has been the issue with this game. Two tds called back due to penalties and multiple trips to the redzone without being able to push it in.

I was at the game today. We won’t face a QB this good in MAC play. With that said, the game could’ve been much, much closer. We’ll do well in MAC play and finish 7-5. Also on the down-low, there are some cries for Collin Schlee to get more snaps.

Schlee will get a chance to lead the team the next two years.

Bogus call
Agree. Announcers said Refs called it to keep Maryland from being embarrassed. Later they said Refs were MAC refs?? Find that hard to
believe.
Next two weeks will determine the season
BG beat Minnesota today. Buffalo looks very tough
Go Flashes.

They were absolutely MAC refs. Out of conference games get road team conference refs.

If you look at all the stats without knowing the score, you'd think the game was very close, maybe a nail biter. Of course, the only stat that counts in the standings is the final score. I don't think the MAC part of the season will be the cake walk some thought at one time. I'm not even positive they will win the East, though I would guess they have as good a chance as anyone and better than most. The worst case scenario would be losing the next two games to BG and Buffalo and the wheels coming off. I'm not predicting that, but it's not impossible. We'll have a good idea in two weeks where things stand.

I always want to win and look good in these games, but realistically I have two things I hope for everytime we play these games. 1) We get through them without any major injuries. 2) The check doesn't bounce.

I think anyone who thinks that needs some serious perspective. Our schedule, so far, is likely one of the top 10 hardest in the country. Despite that, Crum has a passer rating of 130.2. The last time we had a QB (not named Crum) that had a passer rating over 130 with at least 50 pass attempts was Josh Cribbs in 2004. That stat is made even more impressive when you realize Crum only played the first half against the one easy opponent we've played so far. Also, he's learning to adjust to life without his top weapon (McKoy).
I like Schlee ... a lot. I think he's going to be a really good QB and I really hope, if Lewis leaves, Schlee doesn't follow him. With that said, we have a great QB. When he's done he may end up being the best QB that's ever played at Kent. Let's not let our gauntlet of money games cause us to not appreciate what we have.

Well said and as you note his passer rating is against legit opponents - in fact we did actually use the passing attack that much against VMI as our run game was effective - I would also agree that we won't have any cake walks in the MAC - OU looks weak as does Akron (gut it is a rivalry game).

It was ranked #4 going into this past week, and that’s only because the D2 and NAIA opponents didn’t ’count in the rankings for the teams in front of us.

Agreed, I know the only numbers that count are the finals scores, but this
Certainly dispels the notion that “maybe Kent State football hasn’t changed that much after all.” On the road at a Big10 school with a Heisman candidate and had 2 scores swiped off the board. That changed our approach in the red zone forcing us to go for 6 instead of more FGs. We’re relatively healthy and back in conference play amongst peers so I’m looking forward to see what we have competing against the MAC programs.

Proving once again that even with a good coach we are not a D1 team. We cant beat a bottom 3 Big Ten team but we can win the MAC! With all of the conferences realignment I always hoped we could move to a bigger conference but football will keep us down. At least MBB is right around the corner.

Ah yes basketball where we can’t beat a bottom 3 Big Ten team either. Some love should be shown to the football team for going on the road for the $$ to help finance the department and allow the basketball team to schedule our way into 20 wins.

And after this weekend we are now ranked #1 for toughest strength of schedule in all of college football. Wish we had a better record to show for our efforts, but we cashed 3 very large checks and escaped relatively healthy. Now on the conference schedule where things should appear normal after running that gauntlet.

Kent's not a D1 team? Seriously? We were 3-1 last year. We won a bowl game the year before. We've played the hardest schedule in the country to this point and have looked solid. If you want to see a non D1 team play there's one down in summit county playing in a big expensive empty stadium.

And we beat a FCS playoff team by 50. I doubt that Maryland is a bottom 3 B1G team. We will see.

Clicking on that same link for SOS shows they are considered #35 in the country right now. Maryland (4-0). has Iowa and Ohio State their next 2 games and at his current rate their QB can progress his way into the Heisman discussion with strong showings against quality opponents.

The guy who is the loudest opposition of us playing 3 large buy games shouldn't be allowed to brag on us having the #1 SOS.
