It was ranked #4 going into this past week, and that’s only because the D2 and NAIA opponents didn’t ’count in the rankings for the teams in front of us.

And after this weekend we are now ranked #1 for toughest strength of schedule in all of college football. Wish we had a better record to show for our efforts, but we cashed 3 very large checks and escaped relatively healthy. Now on the conference schedule where things should appear normal after running that gauntlet.

The guy who is the loudest opposition of us playing 3 large buy games shouldn't be allowed to brag on us having the #1 SOS.
I know you feel the need to be the only person anywhere that would support old Joel, and thankfully he’s long gone, but his method of selling out this program to boost the departments $$$ was ridiculous. I’ll own it all day and night about pointing out how shameful it is that these kids were fed to the wolves every season and set up for failure before they even get into conference play. Everyone else gets 1 payday game, maybe 2 every couple of years yet JN had then going 3x a year for the $$$ disproportionately to their peers. And if showing facts is bragging then so be it, my comments on the SOS is hardly bragging. Being critical of the football program over the years should also mean you should never try and ride that wave when the fortunes turn for the better.

Don't want to put words in his mouth, but I read his comments as a statement of fact that was relevant to the conversation rather than bragging. Someone can use the SOS to defend the players performance (the context of this conversation) while also wondering why Kent State is playing the hardest NC schedule in the country.

Two of our opponents this season played last night. Maryland turned the ball over 7 times en route to a 51-14 drubbing at home by Iowa.

Iowa beat KSU 30-7
Maryland beat KSU 37-16
Iowa beat Maryland 51-14

After watching all three games I think Maryland is the better team among the three but lacks the discipline to reach their true potential. They are ranked 115tb in penalty yards per game. Last night during an early Iowa drive, they had two or three penalties on third down that lead to an Iowa touchdown. Same thing happened when they played Kent.

I know at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the score but if they fix the discipline they will be a handful for the rest of the big ten.

You also saw the Iowa defense just throttle the “high powered” Terp offense. Iowa looked to be a far superior team to me.
