Monday musings
Big win for the normal Huron eagles over the armadillos as we enter what appears to be a difficult and up and coming MAC WEST.
Congrats to Scott Loeffler and the LLoyd Carr camp of Michigan coaches for sinking the gopher boat. Makes the trip down 23 later in the season a little more worrisome.
We head to Dekalb the land of Corn for a road conference game. Always tough to win on the road. I like our QB I hope we stop with QB roulette and let this kid from Cincy play.
Cincy meanwhile goes to south bend to play Notre Dame at the same time as our game.
WMU looking good early in season again will they swoon again under Lester?
Lions gonna lions.. not sure there was a delay of game penalty sometimes the TV clock doesn't match the real clock. Also terrible time out on 4th and 19 with the Ravens scrambling.
Saw an interesting call in the RAMS Bucs game. less then 2 minutes the refs called a forward fumble on the Buccaneers. However, (I believe it was Bernard) caught it in the air? Doesn't a fumble have to hit the ground? Would not have mattered as the Rams look good again early in the year.
Waiting for October 10th and EagleCrest fall rates until next monday.

Good point on the clock. Sometimes one sees the 'real' clock (albeit ugly) on our TV screens; other times, no.

I saw it live (but not in person) so I did notice a 1 or 2 second gap on my TV screen between 0:00 and the snap.

The true answer will be if there was an end zone camera looking at the center/QB and the jumbotron, in one big wide screen image.

BTW, Saturday's crowd did not look large. Too much TV competition with other marque MI schools?

Dear steve,
I was at the game, and maybe 4,000 fans in the stadium. I will agree with your reasons why.

Official was 14300. Hey UMass had 7500 at their game with us. Glad to see they promoted game as family outing. Lik ,I said I think overall attendance will improve this month with two conference home games.

Fan if you watched the BGSU-Minnesota game, I am pretty sure you would have found that PJ and the boys laid an absolute egg, Ferris St would have beaten them as well. BG did not gain 250 yards for gods sake! I don't dismiss ANY opponent but BG has hardly stricken fear in my heart with this victory.

As far as the Eagle Crest fall rates, don't hold your breath! They have had a FABULOUS year, the Shirley Spork Invitational is next Sun-Tues and TOTAL course aerification is scheduled for the week thereafter.

I was at the game too and was disappointed with the turn-out. I know its simple but fans love a winner. If we beat NIU, we get to 4-1 for homecoming and I think that will get more people there. CMU and WMU both had under 20k this last weekend for their games.

But to me I think the story line except for the two November games is that overall attendance is slowly improving. Neither St Francis or the team from Texas brought many fans. In past years some FCS schools brought more fans than I saw in these two games. Army always brought a crowd. What is encouraging to me was the number of students at both games. That tells me some tried it the first game and liked enough to come back for a second helping. Hopefully that continues.

Agree with your points.

It is always helpful for us if the opponent brings a fair number of fans. Always like having TOL at home. Wish it was an October game.

Yes, students are getting it.

We are/were still kind of fence sitting. Are we good? Kind of like well we didn't blow out St. Francis. WI was tough. UMass is UMass these days.

A good win at NIU will get the bandwagon going for homecoming.

P.S. I like that students are attending. After all, these games are COLLEGE games played by college students who sit in class with those students who will (should) be attending the games.

Since this board is always musing over something (e.g., why isn't Grissom playing more - before he transferred).

Grissom transferred to Morgan State and hasn't done much at all. Actually very little. Didn't even win the starting QB position there.

Adding to this thought, Morgan St is 0-4. Tyrone Wheatley is now 3-13 as their HC. Remember when his name was tossed around when EMUs HC job was open?

Not by me... 04-cheers Too, too often folks seem to want to hire the lead recruiting assistant coach, not a head coach.

I guess the first time I made that mistake was when EMU MBB hired Ray Scott. Thought he'd be a great recruiter and if he recruited, he'd win big. That didn't happen. It was like, "A NBA coach can't coach in college? What gives?"

Cowboy owner Jerry Jones thinks NFL coaches should make less than those in the NCAA and I agree. From a pure workload standpoint, the recruiting component of college coaching is HUGE! Despite his rocky start I think Urban Meyer has a far better chance at success in Jacksonville than Lovie Smith did at Illinois.
